The City of Pearland Communications Specialist
General Statement of Job:
Under the general direction of the Lead Communications Specialist, the Communications Specialist supports various City Departments in planning and organizing a comprehensive public information, media-relations and communications program through public outreach and education programs. The successful candidate will be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Canva, and Photoshop, have excellent writing skills, and be able to respond effectively to service requests from City departments. Work flexible hours; some evening and/or weekend work required. Perform other related work as required.
The successful candidate will:
- Produces and designs promotional materials and content for digital, print, and video to aid in keeping Pearland residents informed with relevant, accurate, and timely information.
- Maintains the City's website, analyzes data and suggests optimizations, and posts content as necessary.
- Attends City of Pearland events and takes pictures and/or video, updates social media, and live streams events when appropriate.
- Drafts and issues press releases.
- Assists writing, editing, and designing of Pearland in Motion, the City's calendar and annual report, and other publications as requested.
- Creates graphics for flyers and projects.
- Uses performance measures to provide post-campaign reports.
- Produces newsletters.
- Gathers content and provides edits for our quarterly newsletter.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
Requires a Bachelor's Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of four years of college in communications, graphic design, marketing, or closely related field.
Requires one to three years of communications, graphic design, marketing, or closely related experience.
Valid, Class C Texas Driver's License, required.
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
