Job Description

Clean Harbors, Norwell, MA is looking for a Claims Specialist to join their safety conscious team! A Claims Specialist is responsible for evaluating and processing insurance claims. They review documentation, investigate claims, and determine coverage and settlement amounts. They communicate with policyholders, insurance agents, and other parties involved to gather necessary information and resolve any issues. Claims Specialists also ensure compliance with insurance regulations and company policies

  • Proficient investigation, evaluation and negotiation of claims: Prompt review, reporting and management of claims arising out of Workers Compensation, General Liability and Auto Liability losses. 
  • For Workers Compensation claims this may include completing and submitting all required employer reports of injury on behalf of the organization.
  • Auto Claim Duties Only: Contacts claimants and other insurance carriers to assist in setting up claims when we are contacted directly by the 3rd party
  • Partnering closely with Third-Party Administrators on the management of claims to closure. 
  • Work with local Health & Safety and Branch Managers to assist in the process of returning injured employees to meaningful modified work. Assesses cases or tasks to facilitate return of ill/injured persons to productive lifestyles in an efficient, cost effective and timely manner.
  • Determine whether various claims will be handled by the Third-Party Administrators or handled in-house.
  • Maintain effective diary system and document claim file activities within the Access database.
  • Manage open claim file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Work effectively with both internal and external counsel on litigated claims.
  • Assess and set claim reserves based on the current fact pattern of the claim. 
  • 2 years college or specialized training (Business/Accounting/Related field)

  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role

  • Demonstrate solid verbal and written communication, negotiation, organization, and analytical skills

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Access

  • Industry training (AIC, CPCU, etc.)

  • Proficient in RMIS systems for generating reports.

  • Negotiation skills for claims settlement process

  • Claims management experience

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
