Job Description

OVERVIEW

 

Alera Group is looking for a Account Manager, Select Commercial Accounts to join our team in Montpelier, VT. This role supports Alera Group’s growing Select strategy and is focused on managing a dedicated book of small commercial clients. This position is ideal for a Commercial Lines professional who enjoys client service, high-volume account management, and owning the client experience from start to finish. The Account Manager will support renewals, coverage review, policy changes, service requests, client questions, and carrier coordination, while helping maintain strong retention and service standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Service & Account Management

  • Manage and service a dedicated book of small commercial clients with a focus on retention, account performance, and client satisfaction.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, providing timely, accurate, and professional responses to questions and service needs.
  • Lead the renewal process by reviewing exposures, identifying coverage gaps, and recommending appropriate insurance solutions.
  • Prepare, present, and review proposals, insurance summaries, quotes, schedules, and related client materials.
  • Educate clients on coverage, resolve issues, and proactively anticipate service needs.
  • Support policy changes, endorsements, certificates of insurance, auto ID cards, billing issues, renewals, and other ongoing service requests.
  • Serve as a client advocate during the claims process, coordinating with carriers and internal partners as needed.
  • Identify referral, up-sell, and cross-sell opportunities and connect clients with additional Alera Group resources when appropriate.

Operational & Team Support

  • Maintain accurate client and policy information in the agency management system.
  • Follow defined service workflows and internal procedures to support accuracy, efficiency, compliance, and overall productivity.
  • Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Monitor personal work quality to avoid errors and omissions.
  • Follow through on client commitments despite obstacles, competing deadlines, or time pressures.
  • Collaborate with carriers, service teams, and internal partners to support a smooth client experience.
  • Maintain an understanding of carrier appetites and use carrier tools and websites effectively for quoting and servicing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related Property & Casualty insurance experience with a carrier, broker, agency, or wholesaler.
  • Commercial Lines insurance experience strongly preferred.
  • Property & Casualty license preferred; active license strongly desired.
  • Strong client service, relationship management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume book of business with urgency, accuracy, and professionalism.
  • Strong organization, follow-through, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound service recommendations with limited producer involvement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and agency management systems.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting small commercial or Select/small business accounts.
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial Property & Casualty products.
  • Experience with renewals, endorsements, certificates, billing, claims coordination, and client service workflows.
  • Professional designations or certifications.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Compensation

$60,000 – $80,000 annually, based on experience.

Licensure & Certifications

A Property & Casualty license is preferred for this role. Candidates with strong Commercial Lines experience who are not currently licensed may be considered, with the expectation of obtaining licensure as needed.
