Job Description
Role Summary
- Responsible for export control and sanctions decisions for South & Southeast Asia.
- Acts as regional decision authority, ensuring consistent and compliant application of regulations while enabling business operations in the region.
Key Responsibilities
Regional decision-making
- Act as primary decision-maker for export control and sanctions matters in the region
- Be accountable for regulatory interpretation and compliance outcomes within the region
- Decide routine and complex cases within defined escalation frameworks
- Ensure consistent and defensible interpretation of US EAR and other applicable regulations
- Ensure decisions are grounded in applicable law, verified facts, and the jurisdictions in which NXP operates
Business support
- Act as advisor to regional business teams (Sales, R&D, Operations)
- Provide clear and actionable guidance
- Balance regulatory risk with business objectives
- Ensure the business is trained and enabled to apply export control and sanctions requirements in daily operations
Risk and escalation
- Identify and manage regional export control and sanctions risks
- Escalate only where required:
- cross-regional conflicts
- enterprise-level risk or MT exposure
- Ensure escalation is structured and decision-ready
Global alignment
- Operate within global regulatory governance defined by the Global Head
- Ensure alignment with global standards and interpretations
- Provide regional input to global frameworks and policies
Stakeholder management
- Act as main point of contact for internal stakeholders and regional regulators
- Support audits, licensing discussions, and regulatory interactions
- Support regional M&A, restructuring, and business transformation initiatives by identifying export control and sanctions implications and ensuring these are addressed in decision-making
Operating Model
- Global Head owns regulatory governance, decision-making, and escalation frameworks
- You own regional decision-making and business interface
- Infrastructure and Operations own processes, controls, and execution environment
Qualifications & Experience
- Solid experience in export controls and sanctions in a multinational environment
- Strong expertise in US export controls (EAR / BIS) and their application in a global context
- Proven ability to operate as a decision-maker in complex and high-risk situations
- Demonstrated ability to apply regulations in a structured, law-based way
- Understanding of regulatory environments across South & Southeast Asia
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance for the business
- Strong stakeholder management skills across business and regulatory interfaces
- Clear and concise communication
Additional Context
- This role is based in Kuala Lumpur and plays a key role in building and strengthening export control and sanctions capabilities in the region.
- Occasional regional travel and limited travel for global team meetings is expected.
