Human Factors Consultant

Title: Human Factors Consultant – Nuclear (we are recruiting for multiple roles across mid - senior levels of experience)

Salary range: £70,000 to £95,000 per annum depending on experience Location: Any FNC Office in the UK but ideally Bristol, Manchester or Burton Working

Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home

Frazer-Nash have over three decades of experience in the nuclear sector, supporting our clients to meet strict nuclear industry regulatory requirements. We work extensively across UK civil nuclear operations and support nuclear elements of UK Defence platforms, infrastructure and equipment. Frazer-Nash has also supported the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for more than 15 years

Continuing the highly successful growth of our Applied Human Sciences team, which brings together Human Factors professionals, psychologists, behavioural scientists and UX/UI specialists, we are looking to recruit a high calibre Nuclear Human Factors professional to join our team to enhance our existing capabilities.

We are recruiting for Consultants/Senior Consultants/Management Consultants/Principal Consultants who holds a breadth of technical knowledge within human factors with a nuclear bias with the ability to develop Human Factors strategies for complex projects, from both a technical and commercial perspective.Working within a variety of project teams, you could be operating as a Subject Matter Specialist, Technical Lead and/or Project Manager. You will be delivering Human Factors work as part of multidisciplinary projects across a number of market sectors, including Nuclear. You will be conducting projects in accordance with UK Regulatory requirements for Nuclear Safety. For the more senior level roles, you will have strong connections across industry(ies) and have an established track record in the Human Factors field. Experience in reviewing and verifying the work of peers and being able to provide technical guidance within projects to junior members of the team is essential. Key Qualifications:

Personal

  • Relevant degree (e.g. BSc or MSc in Human Factors) or equivalent demonstrated experience.

  • Relevant professional membership. Holding or actively working towards Full / Chartered status.

  • Significant experience writing and editing high quality outputs in a consultancy or advisory setting.

  • Significant experience writing high quality bids and proposals in a consultancy or advisory setting.

  • Commercial awareness and attention to detail to manage project scope, risks, and costs.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive working relationships at senior levels.

  • Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritise tasks in a consultancy setting with frequent shifting priorities.

Technical

Essential - Significant experience and demonstrable ability in at least four of the following:

  • Experience of implementing human factors integration activities/ projects across a wide range of safety critical industries (i.e. Nuclear, Oil & Gas or Offshore).

  • Experience of UK nuclear standards and regulations.

  • A thorough knowledge of risk assessment, safety assurance, safety case and safety management concepts within major hazard industries.

  • Experience of conducting quantitative and qualitative human error and reliability assessments.

  • Experience in User Experience or Human Computer Interfaces.

  • Experience in the civil nuclear sector – ideally Nuclear Plants and new builds supporting current operating facilities, nuclear defueling and fuel route

  • Experience in the Defence sector.

  • Support to safety case development within the nuclear context

Desirable

  • Demonstrable history of engagement with regulators (including the ONR, EA/NRW/SEPA, DESNZ, Defra and/or defence regulators e.g. DNSR).

  • The responsibilities you will undertake during this role are:

  • Acting as a technical leader and subject matter specialist within the Group and wider business, specialising within the nuclear domain as an environmental specialist.

  • Managing business development activities with both the existing client base and to secure new clients.

  • Delivery of complex projects (e.g. technically complex; or multi-disciplinary; or high value; or high risk; or long duration etc.) to ensure that they are delivered on time, in line with the agreed scope, to the desired quality standard and within budget.

  • Undertaking technical verification reviews and approval of deliverables, ensuring quality, technical accuracy and effective communication of outputs for our Clients.

  • Coaching and mentoring junior staff to support their career development. Staying current on changes in regulations, guidance and standards to ensure compliance/best practice outcomes for our clients.

Candidates will undergo pre-employment screening and satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
