Job Description

This position will be for the last month of the 2025-26 school year and the first few weeks of the 2026-27 school year. 

Position Summary

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in a secondary special education classroom and through pull-out services. This role ensures continuity of instruction during a teacher's extended absence and supports student academic growth, classroom management, and positive learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the other special education teacher to implement lesson plans and provide pull-out special education services
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress
  • Create and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures
  • Provide feedback to the special education team to help guide special education services
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and administrators as appropriate
  • Follow all school, district, and state policies, including those related to safety and confidentiality

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid Delaware special education teacher certification
  • Effective classroom management and communication skills

Preferred:

  • Prior experience providing special education services to middle or high school students
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technology

Compensation

  • Compensation based on district long-term substitute pay scale
