
Special Education - long-term substitute
Job Description
This position will be for the last month of the 2025-26 school year and the first few weeks of the 2026-27 school year.
Position Summary
The Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in a secondary special education classroom and through pull-out services. This role ensures continuity of instruction during a teacher's extended absence and supports student academic growth, classroom management, and positive learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the other special education teacher to implement lesson plans and provide pull-out special education services
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress
- Create and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures
- Provide feedback to the special education team to help guide special education services
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and administrators as appropriate
- Follow all school, district, and state policies, including those related to safety and confidentiality
Qualifications
Required:
- Valid Delaware special education teacher certification
- Effective classroom management and communication skills
Preferred:
- Prior experience providing special education services to middle or high school students
- Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technology
Compensation
- Compensation based on district long-term substitute pay scale
