Assistant Asset Protection Engineer – Manchester 

Location: Manchester (Office + Site) 
Contract: April 2026 – March 2028 (Reviewed annually) 
Hours: 35 per week, across 5 days 
Onsite/Office Requirement: Minimum 3 days per week in client office or on-site

We are now seeking an Assistant Asset Protection Engineer to join our growing Manchester-based team. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging civil/structural engineering professional to develop technical, assurance and project engineering skills while working closely with Network Rail and key delivery partners. 

 

The Opportunity 

As an Assistant Asset Protection Engineer, you will provide technical, assurance and compliance support for a range of third-party, major and minor projects that interface with Network Rail infrastructure. With mentoring and professional development support, you will: 

  • Undertake duties aligned to the NR/L2/RSE/02009 Project Engineer (PE) role under guidance. 

  • Support engineering assurance activities, helping ensure deliverables meet NR/L2/CIV/003 and NR/L2/RSE/02009 requirements. 

  • Contribute to technical approval, planning and statutory processes. 

  • Provide engineering input to asset management and operations teams within Network Rail. 

  • Carry out engineering verifications for medium- and low risk schemes (permanent and temporary works) with limited supervision.

About You 

Essential Qualifications & Skills 

  • BSc/BEng in a relevant engineering discipline 
    OR HNC/HND with 3+ years relevant engineering experience. 

  • Strong understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations and the Common Safety Method (CSM 2013). 

  • A proactive approach to safety, compliance and engineering assurance. 

Desirable 

  • Familiarity with NR/L2/CIV/003 – Engineering & Architectural Assurance. 

  • Experience supporting Asset Protection activities on third-party works or rail adjacent projects. 

  • Strong customer focused mindset and a collaborative working style.
