The Shipping Supervisor oversees daily outbound logistics operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient shipment of products. This role oversees shipping personnel, coordinates workflow, maintains compliance with safety and quality standards, and partners cross‑functionally to support smooth material flow throughout the facility. The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for team leadership, carrier coordination, documentation accuracy, and continuous improvement within the shipping department.
Shift: Friday, Saturday & Sunday: 7am - 7:30pm
Key Responsibilities:
Shipping Operations & Workflow Management
- Lead daily shipping activities to ensure all outbound orders meet accuracy, safety, and delivery requirements.
- Assign and coordinate work across shipping lanes, staging areas, and loading docks to maintain balanced workflow.
- Monitor shipping performance and adjust priorities to address bottlenecks, carrier delays, or urgent orders.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and conduct routine safety inspections in the shipping area.
- Verify shipment accuracy, packaging quality, and documentation completeness.
- Maintain accurate records including bills of lading, load sheets, shipment logs, and KPI data.
- Communicate equipment or dock issues promptly and coordinate with Maintenance for timely resolution.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures for shipping, loading, and documentation.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Provide daily leadership to shipping team members to maintain engagement, accountability, and productivity.
- Deliver coaching, feedback, and performance support to develop team skills and capabilities.
- Train employees on shipping systems, equipment operation, safety practices, and standard work.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement.
- Manage attendance, performance, and conduct in alignment with company policies.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with Production and Warehouse teams to ensure accurate and timely material flow to shipping.
- Coordinate with Customer Service and Supply Chain to resolve order issues or shipment changes.
- Communicate shipping status clearly during shift handoffs and team meetings.
- Work with carriers, freight partners, and logistics providers to ensure on‑time pickups and proper documentation.
- Participate in planning meetings to align shipping priorities with production and inventory needs.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Identify improvement opportunities related to safety, accuracy, cost, and throughput.
- Support Lean, 5S, and warehouse‑organization initiatives to improve efficiency.
- Recommend process adjustments to reduce waste, improve loading efficiency, and enhance shipment accuracy.
- Ensure accurate documentation for work instructions, procedures, and training materials.
- Contribute to long‑term logistics planning through data‑driven insights.
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3 – 5 years of warehouse, logistics, or shipping experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of shipping workflows, safety practices, and quality standards.
- Proficiency with MS Office and familiarity with ERP, WMS, or shipping systems.
- Ability to read and interpret production schedules, load sheets, and carrier documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with individuals at all levels within and outside the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, prioritize, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or logistics-related training.
- Background in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
Other Job Responsibilities and Physical Requirements:
- Standing / Walking
- This position requires standing and walking throughout the entire shift while working on the production floor.
- Bending
- Frequent bending is required to inspect equipment or assist with production-related tasks.
- Lifting / Carrying
- Must be able to lift and stack banded door panels to various heights.
- Maximum individual lift limit is 45 pounds.
- Frequency of lifting and carrying varies based on assigned tasks.
- Pushing / Pulling
- A force of up to 50 pounds is required to push and/or pull
- Tasks requiring push forces above 50 pounds must be performed by two team members.
- Manual Dexterity
- Ability to handle tools, operate equipment controls, and perform repetitive motions.
