Pay: $62,000 annual salary

Work schedule: Full-time with rotating weekend shift duty

Job Responsibilities: What you'll do: You'll directly supervises the shift supervisors, assistant shift supervisors, and security officers. You'll perform complex work supervising the care and oversight of clients. Directs the activities of staff engaged in maintaining order and security in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Civil Commitment Office (TCCO) directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Direct overall supervision of security officers and clients; supervises schedules, instructs, trains, and ensures the safety of assigned employees and clients; and assists in formulating security and work procedures.
  2. Ensure compliance with TCCO and MTC policies and procedures.
  3. Provide staff training, evaluate performance and implement organizational and personnel changes as approved by the facility administrator and coordinated with human resources prior to implementation.
  4. Oversee the department budget ensuring the department operates efficiently and within budget; prepare budget reports and reconcile the budget monthly.
  5. Supervise and direct searches for contraband; counts, feeds, and supervises clients in housing, work, and other areas.
  6. Supervise and provide oversight and security of clients including observing actions of clients; performing "pat" searches of clients; restraining and securing sometimes combative clients; and transferring and transporting clients by walking, driving, or riding in various vehicles.
  7. Supervise and provide security of clients performing technical skills such as construction, maintenance, laundry, and food service, which involves working outdoors and indoors.
  8. Respond to emergencies including climbing stairs, steps, and ladders while searching for absconded clients; hearing calls for and calling for help; giving first aid at the emergency site; carrying an injured or unconscious client or employee various distances to safety up or down stairs, steps, and ladders; and use force to include the use of chemical agents to control clients.
  9. Read, review, and properly apply information found in client records which is related to the client's health and safety and to the security of the facility; provide appropriate information to other staff; comply with all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; enforce client disciplinary rules; and supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms, and reports.
  10. Conduct major behavior management hearings.
  11. Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  12. Act as administrator on-call on a rotating basis as designated by facility administrator.
  13. Required to respond to emergencies at the facility twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days a week and respond to TCCO inquiries.
  14. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  15. Maintain accountability of staff, clients and property; adhere to safety practices.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED. Sixty (60) semester hours of college course work completed from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements, if approved by the regional vice president, corrections. 
  • Three (3) years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody or related experience to include one (1) year in the supervision of employees required. 
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
