Job Description

Job Description:

At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we’ve tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it’s supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we’re not just here to move money— we’re here to move our global customers forward.

We’re looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that’s you and you’re ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.

About the role:

We are looking for a Director of Design to own the end-to-end customer experience across Core Transfer Experience, the teams that move money across borders for millions of customers. You will be the peer partner to our Director of Product and own how the experience comes together into one coherent, trustworthy experience across every surface a customer touches, from our native apps and web to messaging platforms  and emerging agentic channels.

You will build and grow the design team, raise the craft and AI-native bar, and make sure the experience customers actually get matches the ambition of the roadmap.

You Will:

  • Own the end-to-end customer experience, and be accountable for its coherence across multiple surfaces and for upholding a high bar of design craft in everything the team ships.

  • Partner with the Director of Product as an equal: help shape what we build, and own how it feels, flows, and holds together for the customer.

  • Build and develop a team of product designers with a thriving culture, where designers grow in their careers and feel a strong sense of inclusion and belonging.

  • Grow the next generation of design leaders, coaching them on creative and innovative thinking, prioritization, managing dependencies, and navigating ambiguity.

  • Advance AI-native design practices, using AI to increase the team's velocity without compromising that craft bar

  • Drive customer research and synthesis, and turn insight into design decisions with clear, measurable definitions of success.

  • Keep the design org effective and predictable: healthy throughput, clear and measurable goals, and designers set up to deliver.

  • Collaborate across product lines and with the design system function to build one cohesive experience, not a set of disconnected screens.

You Have:

  • At least 10 years of experience in product design, including at least 4 years managing a diverse team of product designers.

  • Proven ability to both oversee and produce UX deliverables, including wireframes, customer journeys, concepts, and information design.

  • Deep experience in interface design, research, and new product development, with a bias for rapid, research-informed iteration.

  • A track record of designing world-class mobile experiences, both native apps and responsive in-browser designs.

  • Experience holding experience quality across multiple surfaces or channels, not just a single app.

  • Demonstrated strength building relationships and communicating effectively, both internally and externally.

  • An outstanding portfolio that demonstrates leadership in customer-focused product design.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Strongly Preferred:

  • Experience designing in fintech or another regulated, trust-critical domain.

  • Experience designing for a global, multi-market, localized customer base.
