- Valid State of Ohio Principal License/Certification.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with students, staff, families, and the community.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.
- Commitment to serving a diverse school community and promoting equity and inclusion.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to meet all legal requirements, including successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Completion of the Hepatitis B vaccination series (if required by district policy).
General Description:
Under the direction of the Superintendent or designee, the Building Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school. The Principal is responsible for implementing Board policies, promoting student achievement, supervising staff, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment.
Essential Functions:
- The principal shall serve as the educational leader for the professional and classified staff in the building unit and cooperate with the Superintendent and/or his/her designee, staff, and community in determining the goals and objectives for the schools.
- Plan and work with the Superintendent and/or his/her designee in the organization, administration, and evaluation of all aspects of the educational program.
- Cooperate with the Superintendent and/or his/her designee in the selection and evaluation of all staff personnel.
- Work with teachers and pupils in developing a common understanding of disciplinary procedures and expected behavior in the framework of Board policy as well as explaining and interpreting procedures to handle all emergencies arising in the building unit.
- Strive to develop and maintain a system of records that will indicate pupil progress in relation to selected goals and objectives of the school system.
- The principal shall encourage parental participation in the educational process and the activities of the school building.
- The principal shall be cognizant of the physical needs of the building unit and cooperate with the Superintendent or his/her designee in making the building an attractive, sanitary, well-kept, safe, and efficient unit.
- Plan and work with the Superintendent in the development of a coordinated public relations program designed to keep the public informed about all areas of the school program.
- The principal shall cooperate with the Superintendent and/or his/her designee in determining the needs for building construction, educational planning, and selection of equipment for said units; cooperate with the parent advisory council and all school affiliated groups and interpret to organized groups and the general public the school policy as it relates to their activities and the total school program.
- The principal shall try to determine educational factors that influence the school.
- The principal shall participate in other activities such as maintaining membership and actively participating in civic and professional associations and committees.
- The principal shall abide by all Xenia Community School District policies.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a positive role model for students and staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue (Classification II per Exposure Control Plan).
- Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather.
- Interaction with students who may exhibit challenging or disruptive behaviors.
- Occasional exposure to potentially hazardous or emergency situations.
- Interaction with individuals who may be upset, hostile, or aggressive.
