Job Summary
The Director of Quality Assurance & Supplier Quality is responsible for leading and integrating internal and external quality functions across the supply chain for a multi-line distributor of OEM HVAC, plumbing, and appliance parts and equipment. This role drives quality strategy, ensures compliance with industry and regulatory standards, and builds strong supplier partnerships to deliver consistent product and process excellence. The Director oversees system ownership, supplier quality performance, standardization efforts, and data-driven continuous improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction, reduce risk, and optimize operational efficiency.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of the company’s quality strategy across internal operations and external supplier networks
- Serve as system owner for quality management systems (QMS), ensuring effectiveness, scalability, and alignment with business goals
- Establish and maintain supplier quality programs, including qualification, performance monitoring, scorecards, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Drive strategic vendor management by partnering with key OEM suppliers to improve quality, delivery, and cost performance
- Oversee incoming, in-process, and distribution quality controls to ensure products meet specifications and customer expectations
- Lead corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes, including root cause analysis, containment, and long-term resolution across internal teams and suppliers
- Utilize statistical analysis and data-driven methodologies to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Develop and enforce standardization across processes, documentation, and compliance requirements
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies, including audit readiness and execution
- Collaborate cross-functionally with supply chain, operations, procurement, and customer service teams to drive quality improvements
- Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality performance, reporting results to executive leadership
- Lead supplier audits, internal audits, and compliance assessments to ensure consistent quality and risk mitigation
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and quality excellence throughout the organization
- Mentor and develop quality team members, building organizational capability and leadership bench strength
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- 10+ years of progressive experience in quality assurance and supplier quality within distribution, manufacturing, or industrial environments (HVAC, plumbing, appliance, or related industries strongly preferred)
- Proven leadership experience managing both internal quality teams and external supplier quality programs
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems (QMS), ISO standards, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Expertise in statistical analysis, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean)
- Demonstrated success in strategic vendor management and supplier performance improvement
- Experience with process standardization, document control systems, and compliance tracking
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills with a data-driven mindset
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels internally and externally
- Experience leading corrective action programs and driving sustainable improvements across complex supply chains
- Proficiency in quality tools, ERP systems, and data analytics platforms
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-site distribution environment
- Professional certifications such as Six Sigma Black Belt, ASQ CQE, or similar are a plus
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position may require over 40 hours per week and includes regular physical activity such as:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data analysis, virtual communication
- Minimal lifting (typically up to 10-15 pounds, such as a laptop, documents, or office supplies)
- May require occasional travel (if applicable), which involves walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods
