OnTrac is hiring a Lead Maintenance Technician – Conveyor Systems in Dallas!
OnTrac is seeking a hands-on Lead Maintenance Technician to support and lead maintenance activities in a fast-paced parcel sortation environment. This role is responsible for keeping conveyor and material handling systems operating safely and reliably, leading shift-level maintenance response, assigning and prioritizing work, mentoring technicians, and driving root-cause corrective actions to reduce downtime.

Compensation:
The hourly pay range for this position is $40.39 to $60.58 per hour.
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, geographic location, and other job‑related factors.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday- 6:00pm to 2:30am and on call as needed.

Employment Logistics:
The Lead Maintenance Technician supports the safe and reliable operation of equipment and facilities by performing advanced preventive maintenance, troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues, and repairing conveyors and sortation equipment. This role also serves as the shift-level technical lead, helping coordinate maintenance response, mentor technicians, and drive corrective actions that improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.

The Must-Haves:
• High school diploma or GED, technical degree or trade school certificate preferred.
• 5 years of related experience in industrial maintenance, automated conveyor systems, material handling equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
• Experience leading or supporting maintenance work in a 24/7 operation.
• Welding and fabrication experience required.
• Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
• Working knowledge of 480V 3-phase power, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, sensors, photo eyes, and HMIs.
• Knowledge of LOTO, OSHA requirements, PM programs, and safe electrical work practices.
• Ability to lift 60 pounds routinely.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and respond after hours when required to support operations.
• Current driver’s license and clean driving record.
Your Mission in Motion:
A summary of the key responsibilities for this role is outlined below. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support business and operational needs.
• Lead day-to-day maintenance activities for conveyor and material handling systems to keep operations running safely and with minimal downtime.
• Serve as the shift technical lead during breakdowns, assigning work, directing troubleshooting efforts, and supporting rapid recovery of conveyor and sortation equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair conveyor systems, shoe sorters, cross-belt sorters, pneumatic distribution equipment, motors, gearboxes, pulleys, belts, chains, shafts, bearings, and related controls.
• Perform and verify completion of preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance tasks on time and to standard.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, controls, and pneumatic failures using schematics, meters, manuals, PLC/HMI interfaces, and standard troubleshooting practices.
• Support startup, shutdown, equipment changeovers, and post-repair validation to confirm systems are ready for production.
• Lead root-cause analysis on repeat failures and major breakdowns; identify corrective actions and work with leadership to eliminate chronic issues.
• Mentor and train Maintenance Technicians on safe work practices, troubleshooting methods, PM procedures, and repair standards.
• Inspect machinery daily for wear, misalignment, component damage, unsafe conditions, and developing failures.
• Rebuild, align, adjust, and replace equipment components including bearings, pulleys, shafts, belts, rollers, chains, sprockets, motors, and pneumatic devices.
• Perform light fabrication, welding, and repair work as needed to support equipment reliability.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, parts usage, and repair notes in company systems.
• Support spare parts control by identifying critical parts needs, notifying leadership of shortages, and helping maintain organized inventory.
• Coordinate with Operations and other departments to prioritize work based on safety risk and operational impact.
• Support contractors and vendors during repairs, service calls, and equipment improvement projects.
• Maintain housekeeping standards in maintenance areas, conveyor systems, and surrounding work zones.
• From time to time, respond after hours to support material handling systems and restore equipment to operating condition.
• Maintain and contribute to a safe work environment by following all company policies and procedures in the Company Safety Program.
Paving your way to your success:
• You demonstrate expertise in automated material handling systems, industrial conveyor systems, and parcel sortation equipment and a strong working knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, electrical distribution, motor controls, and industrial sensors.
• You can troubleshoot mechanical failures and controls-related faults and are able to prioritize breakdown response based on safety, production impact, and failure severity.
• You can work independently while leading and supporting other technicians on the shift.
• You are a good communicator, able to give clear direction during equipment failures and recovery efforts.
• You have good time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced or high pressure environment.
• You know how to use CMMS and/or work order systems.
• You have experience with continuous improvement, recurring failure elimination, and equipment reliability practices.
• You have industrial electrical experience and advanced PLC, GUI, and HMI troubleshooting experience.
• You prioritize safety by applying thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in every decision and recommendation.
