Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
Join our Road Science team as a Bitumen Plant Operator based in Bluff, Southland.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our high-productivity bitumen emulsion manufacturing plant. You’ll play a key part in day-to-day plant operations, manufacturing activities, maintenance, and upholding strong safety and environmental standards. You’ll also be responsible:
Working collaboratively as part of a close team
Ensuring raw materials are available to meet customer demand
Maintaining plant equipment to a high standard
Completing plant performance logs and keeping systems up to date

Most importantly, you’ll bring a proactive, “can‑do” attitude and enjoy being part of a small, supportive team, along with a solid focus on health, safety, and environmental care. You’ll also need to be physically fit and comfortable at heights and in confined spaces.

Clear and confident communication skills
A customer - focused approach
Willingness to follow Safe Operating Procedures ( SOPs ) and permit-to-work systems
Reliable, organised, and able to work independently after training
A practical, logical approach to operating computer-controller plant systems
The following skills are highly desirable, though they can also be developed on the job:
- Experience or some exposure to manufacturing or a trade - experience with bitumen or chemical production is a bonus
Basic mechanical aptitude (comfortable troubleshooting minor plant issues once trained)
An F endorsement (forklift licence) - helpful but not essential
- Familiarity with Microsoft tools such as Word and Excel
