Job Description

General Summary 

Performs complex professional accounting work related to recording and reporting financial transactions. Prepares financial statements, other regulatory filings, and related analyses.

Essential Functions 

  • Ensures the timely and accurate posting of balance sheet account reconciliations and cash reconciliations
  • Prepares work papers, financial statements, and various reports for internal accounting and auditin
  • Research and analyzes fluctuations in current financial results compared with prior-year, prior-month, and budgeted amount
  • Assists with internal and external audits to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements
  • Assists business partners with budget activity, proper expenditure coding, document preparation, and other accounting-related activitie
  • Recommends changes in accounting processes and procedure
  • Reviews and approves work completed by accounts payable specialists to ensure accurate expense allocation and appropriate approvals

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Critical hands-on support for month-end accounting close process including the proper posting of various recurring entries.
  • Timely record company credit card account activities and perform reconciliations.
  • Support accounts payable staff with accounting classification and reconciliation, review and post accounts payable transactions.
  • Assist the Controller in timely completion of tax filings including personal property, sales tax, 1099 forms and other local licenses and permits.
  • Responsible for creating, analyzing, and maintaining critical monthly balance sheet reconciliations including deferred rent, facility and equipment lease, and other designated accounts.
  • Excel skills include vlookup, sumif, index, complex pivot tables and more.
  • Assist with month-end financial analysis of income statement and balance sheet trends to support monthly reporting and variance analysis to budget as well as prior year.
  • Play a support role in the expected annual accounting audit by interfacing with auditors and preparing required schedules.
  • Assist with other related ad hoc responsibilities and tasks as assigned by department leadership.
  • Performing research and analysis as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial guidelines, company policies, and relevant legal regulations.
  • Evaluate Electronic Practice Management (EPM) systems and be able to learn multiple systems concurrently in order to support proper GAAP based collection and presentation of transactional information.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Specification

  • Assists business partners with budget activity, proper expenditure coding, document preparation, and other accounting-related activities.
  • Recommends changes in accounting processes and procedures
  • Reviews and approves work completed by accounts payable specialists to ensure accurate expense allocation and appropriate approvals

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.  An Associate’s degree in Accounting may be considered with the right experience.
  • 2+ years of experience using accounting and auditing principles and practices, including GAAP and statutory accounting
  • 2+ years of cash and bank account reconciliation experience, preferably performed daily
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in spreadsheet applications
  • Clean credit history, as reported by a credit report
  • Experience assisting with the preparation, maintenance, and revision of accounting process narratives, standard operating procedures, and policy memorandums in response to process or system changes.
  • Takes direction and guidance from supervisors and managers to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Five days per week in an onsite work environment, with occasional overtime required during month-end close to meeting the seven-day close deadline.
