Job Description

Dr. Seiji Shibata is seeking a part-time (80% FTE) Research Lab Technician I to join his lab in the Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery. We are investigating the degenerative and regenerative processes of the mouse auditory nerve. We aim to regenerate the auditory nerve through direct reprogramming using gene therapy. Experience with mice handling, the use of antibodies (eg. western blots) and with standard molecular biology techniques (such as PCR amplification, DNA extraction, and gel electrophoresis) is preferred. Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required.

Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

· Assists with research experiments under supervision, in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols

· Assists with collecting laboratory measurements and data

·  Assists with computing results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques

· Prepares chemical solutions for experimental use under supervision.

· Handles and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous materials under supervision

· Manages laboratory supplies, monitors inventory levels and orders or secures supplies as needed

· Assists with compiling data and computing results for a variety of research procedures, tests, and techniques

· Can assist with mouse colony husbandry and genotyping under supervision

· Can assist with new animal protocols and related amendments

This is an 80% FTE (part-time, 32 hours/week) position. The usual work schedule is M-F, approximately 9am-4pm, but may be required to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.

This position is funded by a research grant. Accordingly, this position is contingent upon receipt of the necessary funding from this or any subsequent grant to continue employment.

The hourly rate range for this position is $22.43 - $22.43. Minimum Education: High school or equivalent, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 6 - 12 months, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
Minimum Field of Expertise: Ability to follow detailed instructions, oral and written
