Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

The Mechanical Technical Advisor is a highly technical individual with an excellent competency on Komatsu Loading units namely:
PC8000E-11, PC5500E-6, and PC500-EX. An individual that is conversant with Komatsu processes and procedures regarding
OEM maintenance strategies and continuous upgrades through field campaign and registered Technical Service Issues (TSI’s).
He/she is also a hands-on individual that has the knowledge to assist with proactive maintenance and troubleshooting and to share
knowledge & transfer skills.
The objective of the Technical Advisor on site will primarily be to support the work identification, planning, execution, analysis, and
feedback processes of the Work Management Process. The Technical Advisor is measured against world-class KPI standards,
availability (FY %) no less than 85%, MTBF no less the 60 hours.
 

The Technical Advisor will have the following competencies:
1. Troubleshooting and fault finding:
1.1. Ability to use hydraulic troubleshooting techniques to diagnose erratic motions and out-of-specs parameters.
1.2. Leads defect elimination and promotes a "zero defects" culture across the entire fleet.
1.3. Ensure equipment failures and breakdowns are properly diagnosed and repaired and a root cause analysis (RCA) is
completed to avoid reoccurrence.
1.4. Submit technical reports, RCA’s reports, Failure Reports, Trend wear reports of key mechanical components.
2. Planned Maintenance Activities
2.1. Tracks identified defects in the CMMS and works with planners to prioritise and schedule backlog work.
2.2. Audits quality of equipment spares supplied to site and assesses quality of externally repaired components to determine if
accepted.
2.3. Undertakes comprehensive machine overview and inspection reports to enhance maintenance and repair quality.
2.4. During inspections able to use analysis techniques such as trending to identify when parts and components are coming
towards end-of-life and forecast when to schedule replacement.
3. Project Management
3.1. Lead, facilitate and oversee highly complex component change-outs and machine assemblies.

3.2. Plan, execute, monitor, and control planned component replacements.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Provide insightful technical and logistical support.
  • Guide the Maintenance and repair organization with updated performance/execution information, KPIs and managementrecommendations.
  • Support the continuous improvement processes and initiatives and lead the defect elimination processes across thedepartment.
  • Ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out as per the OEM recommendations and/or management through thestandard KML Change management procedure.
  • Provide practical training and mentoring to subordinates, including ongoing training and development, performancemanagement, conflict management and crisis management.
  • Ensuring the right people are in the right job as well as putting in place a succession plan for all positions.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/Diploma (or working towards one) in Mechanical/Millwright with extensive field experience in the mechanicalmaintenance of mobile mining equipment.
  • Valid Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
  • Extensive hands-on experience with most of the following equipment:

1. Komatsu PC5500 and PC8000 Shovels and excavators

  • Experience in the following Equipment is an advantage:

1. Caterpillar CAT7495 Rope Shovels
2. Liebherr R9250 and R9100 Excavators

  • At least 10 years of experience in Hydraulics: Knowledgeable in Hydraulics principles, hydraulic components identification and operational principles, read hydraulics schematics, knowledgeable in Electro-hydraulic systems, troubleshooting,

defect identification by using reading hydraulic instruments and hydraulics schematics, servicing of hydraulics components.

  • Training/Experience in / Knowledge of Maintenance Supervision, Total Process Reliability, Microsoft Project, 6-sigma, etc.is an added advantage
  • Experience in using engineering management software Pronto.
  • At least 10 years in a hydraulic technician role. Supervisory Experience is an advantage.
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence
