Job Summary
The Packaging Operator I's responsibilities include production driving (taking pallets from off the line and staging), scrap hauling (making sure all process waste is disposed of properly/supplies raw mats), and pad driving for the production lines (taking pallets to the pad). Other responsibilities include safely operating controls (machinery) to enable stacking/bundling of shingles to be wrapped. Bundles that are being conveyed to the wrapper must meet quality minimum standards. Understanding controls to run machinery to best practice settings is critical to meet efficiency targets. Heavy communication with process end operators relating to product opportunities is vital. Additional functions/tasks that may not require a forklift are critical duties for a forklift operator (helping with lacing the line, project work, and general housekeeping).
Essential Duties
- Follow all procedures and wear all proper personal protective equipment.
• The operator practices proper lifting techniques
• The operator practices good housekeeping
• Attend (Daily Pre-shift meeting.)
• The operator fills out all Checklists, ie..(Shift change, startup/shutdown, Forklift inspection)etc.
• Responsible for maintaining forklift
• Complete forklift repair tag and stage forklift in the designated area (report to supervisor).
• Inspects the packaging for quality.
• Removes finish pallets stored in the staging area
• Keeps the pallet dispenser loaded with pallets
• Apply product sticker on both sides of the pallet
• Communicate with the operator coming on shift using (Operator Shift Transition Form.)
• Inspect pallets for UPC stickers
• Dumps scrap bins and supplies raw materials to the production line and gives breaks and lunches to Pad and Production Driver
• Insures neatly stacked and correct amount of shingle per bundle before high lug conveyor
• All packaging lines start up/shut down effectively.
• Full auto-catcher operation (product selection/star wheel settings product-based/GS turn bar settings)
• Perform quality round checks and communicate results to respective parties.
• Effectively operate machinery to meet efficiency targets.
• Effectively dispose of all splices.
• Perform other tasks as assigned - Other responsibilities
• 5% May be required to perform other and/or related duties as assigned
Qualifications Required
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent experience
General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work under limited supervision and self-motivated.
- Excellent organization skills
- Ability to work well with others at all levels of the organization
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Use proper lock-out/tag-out procedures when working on machinery
