The Industrial Engineer is responsible for supporting data collection, analysis, and the development of models for productivity, product flow, product cost, capacity, and workflow planning. Assists with cycle time studies and the maintenance of Distribution Center labor standards, working closely with Operations Teams. Partners with and learn from Broadline leadership (distribution centers, transportation, etc.) to help ensure that Gordon Food Service goals for capacity, output, productivity, and quality are met.

What you will do:

  •  Supports the management and implementation of various productivity improvements, training programs, and engineering initiatives to help drive efficiency and service within the business.

  • Assists in identifying and implementing change within the operation through Data Analytics, Continuous Improvement, Engineering, and Automation efforts to deliver higher levels of performance.

  • Partners with enterprise leaders to help define and plan various business applications such as enterprise strategic initiatives, product flow optimization, and process improvement.

  • Researches automation techniques and helps test new systems for efficiency and in planning Distribution Center layouts to optimize Distribution Processes. Stays abreast of the latest technology in warehousing and helps evaluate material handling equipment requirements as needed.

  • Assists in executing engineering projects, tracking performance metrics, and developing project scopes, specifications, and estimates.

  • Provides engineering support to internal stakeholders, often collaborating with cross-functional areas to help achieve KPI’s and objectives.

  • Contributes to the development of workflow models and recommends methods for maximum asset utilization.

  • Assists in developing, validating, and maintaining time-studied standards by utilizing time and motion studies and statistical analysis.

  • Applies foundational engineering methodologies such as product slotting, labor standards analysis, and layout optimization to improve distribution operations. 

  • Contributes to the development of improved methods, including evaluating new processes and utilizing software like AutoCad to create layouts.

  • Helps identify facility design requirements based on activity levels, product profiles, and product flow.

  • Performs value stream mapping and process improvements; learns to identify bottlenecks and improve flow.

  • Learn to determine appropriate metrics and create dashboards to monitor progress and communicate with leadership through data collection and analysis.

  • Analyzes product inputs to support capacity planning and helps construct or update capacity models.

  • Effectively leverages data analytics, engineering methodologies, and core Lean tools to enable root cause identification and elimination.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

When you will work:

  • Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm

  • Hybrid schedule, 4 days in office in Wyoming, MI with 1 day remote

What you will bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.

  • Foundational knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types.

  • Academic or internship experience in core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, and Industrial Engineering principles.

  • Ability to learn and apply data mining and organization from multiple systems for data analysis, including SQL/queries or other relational databases.

  • Must be detail-oriented, analytical, and have a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Ability to manage assigned projects and timelines in an efficient manner.

  • Self-motivated with an ability to manage schedule and workload.

  • Ability to learn to provide management with consultation, reporting, and recommendations.

  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret written communications, diagrams, and instructions.

  • Possesses the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and can effectively present information.

  • Developing business acumen with an eagerness to learn the drivers of the business.
