Peer Recovery Specialist I, Crisis Stabilization/23hr program Part-time
Hourly Rate: $16.15/hr
Shift differential: $2.50/hr (evening, overnight, and weekend shifts)
Work Schedule: 10:00 am - 6:30 pm, Friday and Saturday
Join the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board as a part-time Peer Recovery Specialist I in Hampton, VA. In this onsite role, you will provide peer support and recovery services to individuals living with mental health and/or substance use challenges.

Your day as a Peer Recovery Specialist
As a Peer Recovery Specialist I at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center, you will provide peer support and recovery-focused services to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment at our Crisis Stabilization and 23hr program. This role includes advocacy, daily living support, monitoring, and assisting individuals with developing wellness and recovery goals.
You will work closely with the treatment team in both individual and group settings while using your lived experience to support and encourage recovery. Responsibilities may include helping individuals utilize recovery tools such as Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) and other recovery planning resources to promote stability, independence, and personal growth.
Qualifications:
- Must be an individual with personal lived experience of a mental health and/or substance use condition, with at least 12 months of successful recovery, including demonstrated progress in managing symptoms and building a meaningful life in recovery.
- Valid state driver's license required.
- Must complete the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within 6 months of hire.
