The Role & What You Will Be Doing
The Global Gx Portfolio Selection Head owns both the analytical engine and the governance process that together drive the selection and approval of Viatris’ internal generics (Gx) R&D portfolio across all regions.
The role-holder maintains and his/her team is responsible for the global pipeline selections and works with regional portfolio teams and cross function groups on: new proposals, forecasts, R&D cost, COGS and NPV valuations that underpin portfolio decisions, and owns the Portfolio Review Board (PRB) process end-to-end – from initiating cycles through to chairing the PRB Board and securing approval of the generics development targets required for Viatris internal R&D across the US, Europe, Japan, ANZ, Canada, Greater China Region (GCR) and Emerging Markets.

1. Portfolio Review Board (PRB) process leadership:
- Own the PRB process end-to-end: kick off PRB cycles; organise and lead workshops and dedicated workstreams; and supervise all PRB materials.
- Lead the PRB Board meetings, driving the identification and approval of the generics development targets required for Viatris internal R&D across the US, Europe, Japan, ANZ, Canada, GCR and Emerging Markets.
- Take ownership of PRB process improvements and governance standards.
- Conduct regional and technology gap evaluations, including pressure testing.
2. Portfolio analytics & intelligence
- Maintain the global portfolio databases – consolidating all regional long-term forecasts (beyond the strategic-plan horizon).
- Support the Global and Regional PRB processes through COGS (cost of goods sold) estimations and NPV (net present value) calculations.
- Develop and maintain the Global Portfolio dashboards.
- Monitor global pipeline gaps with the regions against patent expiries and key projects.
- Monitor the external patent-expiry pipeline and benchmark it against the internal pipeline.
About Your Skills & Experience
For this role, we’re looking for a candidate who has an effective combination of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (pharmacy, chemistry, pharmaceutical or life sciences) or equivalent.
- Microsoft Office (power point, excel)
- Databases (IQVIA, IPD)
- Extensive experience in pharmaceutical portfolio management, R&D portfolio selection or business development, ideally within the generics / complex generics (Gx) sector.
- Demonstrated experience owning or facilitating cross-functional governance forums (e.g. portfolio or product review boards).
- Strong track record in the financial evaluation of pharmaceutical projects – COGS modelling, NPV / valuation and long-term forecasting.
- Experience operating across multiple regions and therapeutic areas.
- Deep understanding of the global generics landscape, patent-expiry / loss-of-exclusivity dynamics and competitive intelligence.
- Strong data, analytics and dashboarding capability (portfolio databases and BI tools).
- AI Tools
- Senior stakeholder management and influencing across R&D, Commercial, Operations, Finance, Medical and Regional teams.
- Strong facilitation and meeting-leadership skills, including chairing senior governance forums.
- Strategic thinking balanced with analytical rigour and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; confident presenting
