Job Summary:

The Solar Tech is primarily responsible for providing support to multiple PV plant sites located throughout Duke Energy Florida's service territory on a continual/on-demand basis, in order to troubleshoot/resolve equipment issues such as emergency repairs, design change requirements, and equipment modifications  and to establish O&M support for new plant(s) start-up as well as long term operation and maintenance. Role will include work scheduling, maintenance, equipment installation, and start-up support.  Position will also be responsible for supporting existing equipment performance and reliability, work to support equipment testing schedules and assigning contracts, technicians, and engineers to appropriate tasks while developing processes to improve O&M output quality.  The Solar Tech III will also be responsible for training new Solar Tech I and Solar Tech II's. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Troubleshoot, resolve equipment issues
  • Design change requirements, and equipment modifications
  • Scheduling maintenance, installation, and start-up support.  Position will also be responsible for supporting existing equipment performance and reliability
  • Support equipment testing schedules and assigning contract testers, technicians, and engineers to appropriate tasks while developing processes to improve O&M output quality
  • Ensures compliance with all operational, environmental and other regulatory and policy compliance requirements.  Monitors station environmental, health and safety objectives and ensures they are met
  • Provides leadership and accountability in order to achieve desired safety results (Lock Out Tag Out compliance, safety meeting attendance, contractor oversight, safety policies/procedures, work practices, etc.)

   

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems experience.  
  • Successful completion of the MASS test, must have and maintain a valid driver's license  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 2 years technical training or military training in electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems 
  • Working knowledge of power distribution systems 
  • Previous experience working with inverters, electrical design, Maximo CMMS, centralized SCADA/EMS control systems and associated network devices; 
  • knowledge of National Electrical Code 
  • 5 or more years of electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems experience. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Excellent communication skills both oral and written;
  • Able to troubleshoot and solve problems; 
  • Ability to work independently; familiar with electrical test and measuring equipment. 
  • Ability to train and develop employees in lower levels of this job title.  

   

Working Conditions:

  • Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.

  • Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, extended hours, nights, weekends and maintain flexibility as plant conditions and events require. 

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as a hardhat, steel toed safety shoes, safety glasses, arc flash protective gear.

  • Must be able to work around rotating equipment, in extreme heat/cold, electromagnetic fields, be able to climb, crawl, kneel, stand, sit and walk.

  • Must be able to climb, crawl, kneel, stand, sit, and walk.  

  • Must live within one hour of a site under their responsibility.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work in high temperatures and direct sunlight required.

  • Travel is likely and overnight trips may be required.

Specific requirements:

  • Successful completion of the MASS test

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
