Job Description
Under general direction of nursing leadership, the Clinical Supervisor RN position is responsible for serving as a clinical resource, unit expert for staff, and is responsible for patient care. This position links nursing leadership with nursing care through the application of organizational and nursing service policies, procedures, and care delivery model. The Clinical Supervisor RN uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements to guide leadership and practice. The Clinical Supervisor RN attains knowledge and competence reflective of current nursing practice; promotes innovation and futuristic thinking by incorporating evidence based practice and research findings. |
Responsibilities
(40%)* Assesses and assures the competency of staff while functioning as a liaison to facilitate staff completion and maintaining of their unit competencies. Acts as a resource and role model for clinical practice, develops and maintains excellent collaborative relationships and channels of communication with members of the nursing care teams, including essential service leadership. Helps in development and delivery of process improvement strategies, and assist in promotion of teamwork and care delivery in times of need. Focuses on developing and enhancing clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical decision-making, and professional practice standards for nursing staff. (20%)*Complete focused rounding for all patients, with nursing staff, within 24 hours of admission and as needed. Participates in direct patient care when appropriate, ensuring that best practices are in place, and standards of care are being followed. Promotes and performs multidisciplinary rounding. (20%)*Collaborates effectively with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers to assist in the best care delivery, efficiency and planning of patients. Makes recommendation as appropriate for progression of total plan of care to achieve desired outcome in a timely and cost effective manner. Continuously promotes the most excellent patient experience possible and when appropriate works with Director, Manager, and nursing staff to correct deficiencies. (10%)*Serves as a clinical resource person for staff, patients, and families. Identifies and assists in providing patient and family education. Participates in Unit Practice Council, assisting with unit cohesiveness, teamwork, and positive morale. Routinely audits nursing care clinical documentation and care delivery for regulatory compliance as well as ensuring adherence to quality and safety related

Certifications and Licensures
Credential:BLS: Basic Life Support
Equivalent Experience: Within 3 months of hire or transfer
Qualification Source: AHA

Required Education
Education: Associates Degree
Equivalent Experience: Bachelor's degree in nursing at time of hire or transfer to position preferred. New requirement added in March 2020, incumbents with an associate's degree in nursing have until 1/1/2025 to obtain a bachelor's degree in nursing.
