Position Summary
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is a hands-on, plant-focused leader responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all environmental, health, and safety programs within a manufacturing environment. This role partners closely with operations, engineering, and leadership to create a strong safety culture that protects employees, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports efficient business operations.

Key Responsibilities
On site presence to effectively oversee manufacturing operations hours: currently day shift operations and expanding to evening shift operations in the near future.
Develop, implement, and continuously improve all occupational health and safety programs
Manage all written safety programs applicable to Haakon operations, including but not limited to: fall protection, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection, man lift and forklift operation, chemical hazard communication, controlling exposure to toxic chemicals, hazardous energy control, chemical emergency response, fire protection, electrical safety, ergonomics, and injury prevention
Ensure compliance with OSHA, NC OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations
Lead hazard assessments, incident investigations, audits, and corrective actions
Manage injury reporting, workers’ compensation claims, and OSHA recordkeeping
Develop and deliver safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors
Maintain SDS/MSDS systems and environmental compliance documentation
Oversee hazardous materials handling, waste disposal, air quality, and chemical compliance
Partner with operations, engineering, and leadership to improve safety systems and processes
Work with EHS Manager’s at other Haakon manufacturing sites to create company wide policies
Serve as a visible safety leader on the manufacturing floor
Develop safety team and lead the team effectively
Manage site safety and security protocols (including inclement weather planning, leadership recommendations, and communications).
Participate in training of all new hires; Ensure training program is built around safety and environmental requirements pertinent to employee job.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, ergonomics, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment (or equivalent experience).
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
Thrives with minimal oversight and proactively identifies solutions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills including at peer to peer, manager to employee, and employee to management levels
Preferred:
Experience with industrial metal manufacturing: cranes, forklift, welding, working at heights, mechanical presses and paint operations.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements associated with chemicals including experience with environmental permitting agencies
Expertise with OSHA recordkeeping, Hearing Testing and Return to Work and workers compensation claims management
Understanding of Root Cause Analysis, Hierarchy of Controls, Corrective Actions and Quality Recordkeeping.
CSP or SMS certification
First Aid/CPR/AED Trained
ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certified or related experience level, ISO 9001 may substitute
Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) Operator and Trainer
Overhead Crane Operator and Trainer
Hazardous Waste Operator Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) 40-Hour Certified
OSHA 30-Hour Construction, OSHA 10-Hour General Industry
