About the role
We are recruiting a Shift Production Technician to support operations at Trafford Park, Manchester. The role involves hands on plant work, routine operational tasks, and contributing to the safe and efficient running of the site. It is well suited to colleagues who enjoy practical problem solving, working as part of a shift team, and maintaining high operational standards. This position offers the opportunity to broaden technical capability and play a key role in daily site performance.
Main Responsibilities
You’ll support safe and efficient plant operations across core processes, safety routines, maintenance preparation, and improvement activities
Operations
• Operate and monitor automated and manual processes.
• Perform field tasks including reactor charging, sampling, tanker operations, and equipment checks.
• Complete batch documentation, SAP updates, shift logs, and DCS related activities.
• Carry out structured shift handovers and assist with troubleshooting and issue escalation.
Safety & Compliance
• Maintain EHS, COMAH, and safe work practice standards.
• Conduct routine safety checks (e.g., showers, pumps, valves, LMRA assessments).
• Support emergency response activities, including acting as Incident Controller when trained.
Maintenance Support
• Prepare plant areas for maintenance, including isolations, LOTOTO, line breaking, and permit coordination.
• Raise and follow up SAP maintenance requests and liaise with Maintenance & Engineering teams.
Continuous Improvement
• Participate in improvement initiatives such as 5S, HAZOPs, alarm management, and bad actor reviews.
• Identify optimisation opportunities and support improvement actions with Shift and Production Managers.

Experience & Skills
• Experience in a chemical, industrial, or COMAH regulated environment (shift experience beneficial).
• A technical qualification such as NVQ Level 2–3, an apprenticeship, or equivalent is desirable but not required.
• Strong working knowledge of process operations and safe systems of work.
• Confidence working with SAP, batch documentation, and DCS interfaces.
• Ability to work safely in field based environments, including confined spaces and manual handling tasks.
Soft Skills
• Great communication skills for effective shift handover and teamwork.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in operational and safety documentation.
• A proactive, problem solving mindset with willingness to escalate issues promptly.
Other Requirements
• Ability to work a rotating shift pattern, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Physically capable of carrying out operational duties safely within an industrial and process plant environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a strong safety culture and supporting continuous improvement.
• Willingness to undertake ongoing training, development, and competency assessments as required for the role.
• Ability and willingness to participate fully in site emergency response duties, including completing breathing apparatus (BA) training and using BA equipment to support emergency response activities when required.
