The expected annual salary range for this role is $122000 - $ 162, 000 a year.

Job Summary
Eaton Research Lab (ERL) has an exciting and rewarding position of a Mechanical Engineer Specialist Engineer to support research and technology development in emerging technology programs. The job function includes designing, developing, and testing power electronic based circuit protection and power conversion technology and products. The individual will work together with a diverse cross-functional team of engineers to drive the development of the mechanical systems and subsystems to be used in both low voltage and medium voltage AC & DC applications. The position also entails developing and testing innovative electromechanical actuation and electrical contact technologies and identifying market opportunities for the new technologies, support businesses to evaluate market studies and develop business cases. The individual will also identify internal and external research funding resources, support discussions with national labs, university leaders and Federal Agencies (e.g. DoD, DoE, NSF, etc.) to be on top of the key technologies identified. A key role will be to establish customer relationships, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and ERL leadership. Ability to communicate complicated technologies in a clear and concise way to a variety of different audiences (business leaders, technical colleagues and lay people). The successful candidate will be reporting to the Technology Manager for Power Electronics (PE) group of ERL.
**This Hybrid role requires working on-site 3 days a week at our facility in Menomonee Falls, WI. * RElocation is available for a qualified candidate currently residing in the USA.
Job Responsibilities
• As a technical leader, create emerging power electronics augmented electromechanical actuation and mechanism solutions based on breakthrough technologies for industrial, automotive, truck, and aerospace applications.
• Lead and develop technology projects by supporting teams (local and remote resources) and working with external technology resources (Business Divisions, Universities, Suppliers and Customers).
• Advance state of the art mechanical design and packaging of power electronics, electrical protection, and power converter technologies, as well as identify and develop commercialization opportunities with diverse Eaton businesses.
• Lead and collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams, and lead specific tasks within the scope of work and provide updates to project manager.
• Identify, analyze, develop and validate advanced technologies in the fields of electromechanical actuation, motion control, materials, simulation and modeling of mechanical systems.
• Initiate, lead and support global technology programs utilizing Eaton’s technology development processes including Business Reviews, Technology Reviews, and Project Reviews.
• Participate in technology strategy discussions with Eaton’s Businesses and develop technology road maps.
• Lead and support technology development projects and manage global teams (Eaton Business Divisions, Universities, National Labs and Customers).
• Create project plans, manage budgets and resources, and deliver results on budget and schedule.
• Engage with and manage stakeholder relationships - Business Divisions in the US and globally.
• Lead projects and support projects with partners from national labs, universities and other research institutes.
• Build global organizational capabilities in electromechanical design.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 7 years of electromechanical design including mechanical actuation and electrical equipment enclosure and packaging design, including creating specifications, defining application space, designing technical solution concepts, and building and testing prototypes.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Masters / or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
• Previous experience (academic or postgraduate) with Power Electronics Industry and/or low voltage/high voltage Inverters / Converters.
• Experience in power electronics electromechanical packaging techniques; understanding of the effects of parasitic capacitance/inductance on circuit performance.
• Expertise in the following areas: electromechanical energy conversion (e.g. solenoid, Thompson coil, motor theory), power electronic module packaging and mechanical integration for indoor/outdoor and harsh environmental applications.
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• Ability to design, build, test, evaluate, and iterate prototyped mechanical systems and electro-mechanical devices in relevant lab environments. Understand and comply with site specific electrical test lab equipment and procedures, including health, safety and security aspects.
• Strong project management / problem solving skills .
• Must possess effective and verbal communications skills.
• Must possess good organizational and prioritization skills to maintain and address multiple assigned projects and expectations.
