Job Description

The Parks and Roads Services Branch, within the Branch Integrated Support Services (BISS), is seeking a dynamic Project Coordinator to join our team. This is your opportunity to be a key driver in ensuring our branch infrastructure and resources are managed effectively, supporting the City’s growth and commitment to operational excellence.

Reporting to the General Supervisor, Integrated Services, Training and Workforce Development, this position plays a vital role in the strategic planning of the branch’s land and facility assets. You will be instrumental in both short and long-term planning, ensuring that our facilities and yards are precisely tailored to meet the diverse needs of the branch.

What will you do?

  • Coordinate and analyze short and long-term facility and land needs for the Parks and Roads Services branch
  • Lead branch-wide projects to support internal staff and operational efficiencies, while ensuring alignment to corporate policies and procedures
  • Develop strategic plans and options that optimize the utilization of facilities and land based on asset management principles
  • Coordinate facility projects such as renovations, maintenance, relocations and new constructions
  • Maintain accurate inventory management for owned and leased assets, reflecting current occupants and space allocations
  • Research and develop policies related to branch accommodation and location requirements
  • Perform site inspections to ensure work conforms to drawings, specifications and codes
  • A Degree in a related field (Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Business, or Project Management) with a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in project management for infrastructure planning, design, or construction OR
  • A Diploma in a related field (Engineering, Construction, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Project Management, or Trade Certification) with a minimum of four (4) years of directly related experience

Assets:

  • Working knowledge of Provincial and Municipal legislation regarding land use planning
  • Extensive knowledge of planning processes and bylaws specifically within a municipal environment

  • Project Coordination: Demonstrated ability to use project management methods and techniques to handle complex and sensitive accountabilities
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to conduct cost-benefit analyses and use planning tools to adapt solutions to changing priorities
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions and present information accurately to collaborators
  • Relationship Management: Strong ability to build trusting relationships and network effectively with internal partners and community partners
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret advanced plans, specifications and complex technical diagrams

Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to perform site inspections, which may include standing, walking or climbing stairs
  • Use of required protective equipment such as safety footwear and hard hats when on-site
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Candidates must arrange their own transportation (reimbursed per City policy), which may require obtaining business-use auto insurance

Work Environment:

  • This position primarily operates in a sedentary office environment but requires regular travel to various sites for inspections and coordination
  • Exposure to various outdoor weather conditions and construction site environments during field visits may occur

Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months in accordance with Article 18.02 of the Collective Agreement

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week

Salary Range: $45.611 - $57.269 (Hourly); $80,355.180 - $100,893.660 (Annually)
