LEADERSHIP
PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

SALARY RANGE: $52,000 - $60,000
Environmental and Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including Club sites, athletic facilities, event venues, and community locations. The position requires travel between Club locations and occasional travel for training, meetings, conferences, or organizational events. The Director may also be called upon to provide leadership, operational support, or program oversight at other BGCD locations as needed.
Work Hours:
This position generally operates Monday through Friday from 10:00 – 7:00 PM; however, frequent evening and weekend work is required to support athletic leagues, sporting events, tournaments, trainings, and other organizational activities. The Director must maintain a flexible schedule and be available to respond to program, safety, and operational needs as necessary.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Athletics & Club Safety reports to the Vice President of Club Experiences and is responsible for leading and managing the organization's athletic programs. This role ensures that youth of all ages and abilities have access to high-quality sports leagues, athletic programming, and safe environments through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD), and works closely with staff, youth, and stakeholders at all levels.
The Director oversees the development, coordination, and expansion of multi-sport leagues and programs that help youth build athletic skills, develop healthy lifestyles, and foster positive character and leadership traits. Through these efforts, the Director creates engaging experiences that promote physical well-being, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth in a safe and supportive environment.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
LEADERSHIP
- Develop, implement, and expand athletic programs, leagues, clinics, camps, and tournaments.
- Manage diverse sports programs including small and large group activities, intramural team sports and travel teams.
- Manage athletic events including set-up and clean-up, proactively ensuring safety at all events.
- Expand reach and participation opportunities across multiple sports and age groups.
- Assess program effectiveness and implement improvements to enhance participant engagement, outcomes, and overall program success.
- Develop long-term strategies for athletic program growth and safety enhancement.
- Build partnerships with schools, sports organizations, municipalities, and community groups.
- Identify grant and sponsorship opportunities.
- Represent the organization at community and athletic events.
- Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate athletics staff and volunteers.
- Provide coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Establish performance expectations and accountability measures.
- Foster a culture of safety, excellence, and youth-centered service.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
- Exemplify BGCD core values in all interactions with youth, staff, parents, partners, and community members.
- Leverage athletics as a vehicle for positive youth development.
- Promote character, leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles.
- Ensure equitable access to skill development of multiple sports to youth of all ages and interests.
SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
- Exemplify safety as a first priority, with an emphasis on physical, social, and emotional safety for all stakeholders at all times.
- Foster a culture of respect and accountability by utilizing restorative conflict resolution strategies.
- Oversee the inspection, maintenance, safety, and accessibility of athletic facilities, fields, gyms, and equipment, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and risk management practices.
OPERATIONS & ADMINISTRATION
- Schedule and coordinate all athletic leagues, games, tournaments, and sporting events across each season.
- Collaborate with coaches, officials, partner organizations, and community stakeholders to plan, implement, and evaluate seasonal athletic programs.
- Develop and support marketing, communications, and community outreach efforts to promote athletic programs, participation opportunities, and special events.
- Coordinate transportation logistics and ensure appropriate travel arrangements for athletic competitions, events, and program activities.
- Maintain proactive and timely communication with staff, families, coaches, and organizational leadership regarding program updates, opportunities, concerns, and operational needs.
- Manage registration, scheduling, and operational systems to ensure the effective administration of athletic programs and events.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets.
- Monitor expenditures and resource allocation.
- Ensure efficient use of facilities, equipment, and personnel.
- Support fundraising and revenue-generating athletic initiatives.
- Supervise assigned programs and staff.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- A minimum of three years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience
- Thorough knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs or similar organization.
- Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff
- Ability to guide members, including leadership with conflict resolution
- Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management
- Skills in fund-raising events
- Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders
- Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, experience with database applications.
- Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision-making.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, community groups, and other related agencies.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, less than 5 points on DMV record, and be willing to drive company vehicles (e.g. 10-passenger van); local and statewide travel occasionally required.
- Must be able to pass background check and necessary clearances.
