Job Description

Lead Client Growth Across the NY/NJ Water Market

This is not a traditional project management role. WSP is seeking a proven seller-doer to help expand our water and wastewater business throughout New Jersey and the New York metropolitan region. This role offers the opportunity to shape market strategy, grow key client relationships, and influence the future direction of a rapidly expanding practice.

As a Senior Project Manager / Client Service Leader, you will serve as a trusted advisor to municipal utilities, sewerage authorities, and public-sector clients — while building WSP's presence across one of the most active infrastructure markets in the country.

Why This Role Is Different

The NJ/NY market is defined by complexity — NJDEP and NYSDEC permitting environments, a dense network of municipal utilities and sewerage authorities operating under consent decrees and capital improvement mandates, and significant federal investment flowing through EPA and BIL grant programs. Navigating this environment takes relationships, regulatory fluency, and the ability to position a firm for programs before they go to bid. WSP is investing in this market and this role is the platform to lead that effort.

  • Significant opportunity to grow existing accounts and develop new clients across the region
  • Ability to shape regional strategy and investment priorities
  • Access to national technical resources while maintaining local market leadership
  • Pathway toward Client Director, Growth Leader, and Regional Leadership positions

What You'll Do

  • Develop and expand relationships with NJ and NY municipalities, municipal utilities, sewerage authorities, and MUAs
  • Lead strategic pursuits, positioning, proposals, interviews, and contract negotiations
  • Serve as trusted advisor to key clients on major capital programs
  • Manage major infrastructure programs and multidisciplinary teams through planning, design, and construction
  • Mentor project managers and technical staff
  • Support regional growth initiatives and market planning

Ideal Candidate

  • PE license in NJ or NY required, or ability to obtain through reciprocity
  • 12+ years of municipal water/wastewater consulting experience
  • Established relationships with NJ and/or NY municipal utilities, authorities, and agencies
  • Demonstrated business development success in the NJ/NY market
  • Familiarity with NJDEP and/or NYSDEC permitting and regulatory requirements
  • Strong executive presence and client-facing leadership skills
