Position Summary

The Capital Projects Accountant is responsible for completing the day-to-day finance and accounting functions associated with the capital project, planning and administration process, managing the capital projects workflow as assigned and ensuring compliance with quality control and process standards. This position will support continuous operational workflow by minimizing business disruption whenever possible, provide recommendations for organizational and operational efficiencies related to the administration of capital project activities and ensure all financial aspects of the capital projects planning and administration process are executed with the highest integrity and in compliance with Enterprise Physical Operations (EPO) standards.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Completes the day-to-day finance and accounting functions associated with the capital project planning and administration process including, but not limited to, identifying and establishing project funding sources, approving and tracking progress payments, calculating and billing earned project management fees and completing all necessary reconciliations and closing procedures for completed projects.
  • Manages the capital projects workflow as assigned ensuring proper approvals and documentation are obtained and in compliance with EPO and Washington University quality control and process standards; and provides all administrative, accounting and finance related support for the capital projects planning and administrative process as assigned.
  • Serves as the financial business partner to the Director, Capital Project Accounting, Major Projects, Project Manager and other project stakeholders by participating in regular project review and forecast development meetings, developing documentation for applicable leadership and committee approvals and communicating and coordinating with customers, project stakeholders, and departments to collectively resolve issues related to the capital projects planning and administration process as they arise. Workload is highly complex and fast paced.
  • Prepares financial materials for project review meetings and other financial project reports and performance metrics to assist leadership with managing project costs and establishing future revenue planning and other forecasting models for future capital projects. May accumulate and analyze historical data, such as performance experience, for use in developing realistic basis for future planning, estimating and forecasting.
  • Ensures all financial aspects of the capital projects planning and administration process are executed with the highest integrity and in compliance with EPO and Washington University standards.
  • May identify and resolve issues in collaboration with key business management, project stakeholders, and other applicable University units/departments or interface with University members on issues related to contracts, insurance, bonds, purchasing, and contractor pre-qualifications.
  • Assists in developing, coordinating, and presenting project training classes as it relates to capital project planning and administration, including updating of process documentation, manuals, compliance, audit and annual training. Will assist with ongoing updates, implementation and maintenance of current or new capital project tools and software programs. Trains and supervises interns or other department resources.
  • Works with EPO leadership team to provide recommendations and implementation of organizational and operational efficiencies related to the administration of capital project activities and as well as ensuring standardization of procedures and processes geared to proposing, controlling, and coordinating capital project administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$49,700.00 - $82,100.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
