Position summary
The Field Service Engineer ensures the reliability and performance of automated material‑handling systems by performing preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnosing electro‑mechanical and controls issues, and supporting system optimization efforts. The role blends technical expertise in PLC/SCADA controls, mechanical systems, and industrial networks with strong customer interaction, clear documentation, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Prepare and execute service calls, preventive, emergency, and corrective maintenance
Report and document internal and customer service requests
Advise and execute optimization of material handling systems
Coordinate resolution support efforts with remote support services for controls related issues (PLC, SCADA, etc.)
Analyze system performance and the operator influence
Monitor material handling systems prior to and after changes have been implemented
Propose improvements for the quality of material handling systems
Develop service supporting tools and new ways of working
Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance work orders
Troubleshoot system issues related electro-mechanical equipment, controls (PLC, SCADA, etc.) and field device networks (ASi Bus, Profi-Bus, etc.).
Research and request spare parts as required
Assist operations as required
Provide maintenance training as necessary
Complete CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) service reports, parts consumption and warranty records
Exercise safe working practice at all times
Participate in scheduled on‑call rotations, including after‑hours, weekend, or holiday support, with the ability to respond remotely or on site as required.
Report to assigned customer sites when not scheduled for national travel, ensuring support coverage and responsiveness.
Compliance with cyber security or access policies
Protection of credentials and system access
Other duties as assigned by management
Requirements:
3+ years material handing experience with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and controls (PLC, SCADA, etc.) components
Experience troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives, Frequency Inverters and Motor Starters
Experience with troubleshooting field device networks such as ASi Bus, Profi-Bus, Profi-Net, etc.
Other requirements:
Ability to pass 10-year background checks to the extent required by TSA and airport authorities is required. Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge and any other required security clearance related to work at an airport.
Must have a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs and field device networks
Continuous improvement/Lean Six Sigma experience
Maximo CMMS experience
Knowledge-Skills-Abilities:
Efficient computer skills with Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position exempt, working hours are flexible upon request and needs of the business. Work shift hours may vary based on customer demand, travel and incident response requirements.
Travel:
Willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 75% of the time.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to material handling systems, mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The Technician will encounter mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment. Ear protection should be worn.

This is a full-time, exempt position, eligible to receive a salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final hourly rate offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate-dependent.
Salary range: $82,000.00 - $86,000.00
