Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Safely handle and restrain canine and feline patients
- Monitor patient behavior and report changes in condition
- Support hospitalized patient care and comfort
- Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical spaces
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments and equipment
- Assist with diagnostic procedures including radiographs and laboratory testing
- Help prepare patients for surgery or treatment
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces throughout the hospital
- Assist with patient intake and discharge
- Provide basic client education regarding pet care and medications
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Restock medical supplies and maintain inventory organization
- Help ensure a smooth and efficient workflow within the hospital
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technician, Kennel Assistant, or Animal Care Technician
- Experience working in a veterinary hospital, animal clinic, or animal care environment
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills, with the ability to safely support patients during examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures
- Ability to assist veterinarians and technicians during routine medical procedures, including patient preparation and support during treatments
- Familiarity with basic veterinary clinical workflows, including exam room preparation, patient intake, and assisting with diagnostics
- Strong attention to detail when observing patient behavior, recording information, and supporting medical documentation
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary clinical environment, including treatment areas and medical equipment
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a willingness to collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and client service teams
- Comfort interacting with pet owners and providing compassionate client support and basic education when appropriate
- Ability to prioritize tasks and remain organized in a fast-paced veterinary hospital environment
- A strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn, with motivation to grow within the veterinary field
- A genuine passion for animal care and supporting high-quality veterinary medicine
