Organizational Context:
INEOS is a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and oil products. It comprises 28 businesses each with a major chemical company heritage. The INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA business is a major participant in the North American chemical industry, with an annual manufacturing capacity of 9.6 billion pounds of petrochemicals. Manufacturing sites include Chocolate Bayou Works (Alvin, TX), Battleground Manufacturing Complex (La Porte, TX), and Carson (Carson, CA), with a corporate office in League City, TX.
The 300-acre INEOS Battleground Manufacturing Complex (BMC) was originally built in 1956 and is located on the Houston ship channel east of Houston, Texas. Currently, BMC produces both high-density polyethylene and polypropylene. The polypropylene line has a capacity of approximately 320 million pounds per year, and the seven polyethylene lines have a combined capacity of approximately 3 billion pounds per year. The BMC site has a state-of-the-art technical center which integrates research and development, technical services and quality assurance.
Purpose of the job:
This role is part of the Electrical Reliability Team at the Battleground Manufacturing Complex and reports to the Electrical Reliability Team Lead. The team consists of engineers, specialists, and technicians responsible for supporting the site’s electrical systems and driving reliability improvements across the facility.
This is a hands-on electrical reliability technical coordinator role focused on troubleshooting, maintenance support, and reliability improvement in an operating chemical facility.
The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to diagnose and resolve issues in electrical power and control systems, while supporting the long-term reliability and performance of plant equipment.
The role emphasizes field execution, equipment diagnostics, and technical support, with opportunity to develop and apply engineering tools and analysis methods over time.
Responsibilities AND Accountabilities
The position is accountable for understanding and putting into practice the INEOS 20 Principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Troubleshooting & Plant Support (Primary Focus):
- Lead and support troubleshooting of electrical power and control systems, including:
- Motors, motor control systems, and motor starters (across-the-line, soft starters, VFDs, protection relays)
- UPS systems, battery systems, and battery chargers
- Cathodic protection (CP) systems
- Electrical distribution equipment (switchgear, transformers, breakers, protection relays)
- Diagnose issues involving:
- Motor performance and failures
- VFD alarms, trips, and operation
- Electrical and control system interfaces
- Provide technical support during electrical disturbances and outages, including off-hours support as needed
- Partner with maintenance and operations to safely execute repairs and restore equipment to service
- Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on equipment failures and develop corrective actions
Work Planning & Execution support:
- Plan, coordinate, and serve as job representative for electrical work activities, including maintenance, testing, and repairs
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, contractors, and engineering to ensure work is properly scoped and executed
- Support job planning activities, including development of job plans, materials identification, and work sequencing
- Ensure work complies with safety requirements, site standards, and procedures
Reliability & Maintenance Support:
- Identify and support implementation of electrical reliability improvements
- Assist in execution and improvement of preventative and predictive maintenance programs
- Analyze test data and maintenance results to support reliability decisions
- Support tracking and improvement of equipment performance
- Utilize SAP to support maintenance and reliability activities, including creating and managing work notifications, work orders, and requisitions
- Assist with material identification, requisitioning, and tracking to support maintenance and project activities
- Ensure work activities and equipment records are accurately documented within SAP
EDS Support:
- Support maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical distribution system equipment
- Assist with testing, inspection, and maintenance activities on EDS equipment
- Work in coordination with EDS specialists and engineers to support system reliability
Motor Systems & Diagnostics:
- Support motor testing and condition assessment programs
- Utilize tools such as PdMA (MCE) / PD (IRIS) or similar technologies
- Interpret results and assist in determining repair or replacement needs
- Support troubleshooting of motor systems and associated drives (VFDs)
- Coordinate and follow motor repairs with vendors/repair shops, including scope review, inspection, and communication of repair findings
- Attend and support motor test runs (e.g., shop test runs, post-repair testing, or acceptance testing) to verify performance and proper operation Support electrical scope for capital and expense projects
Engineering Support & Development:
- Support use of engineering tools and analysis methods
- Apply results of analysis to support troubleshooting and reliability improvements
- Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn and develop engineering-level skills over time
Field Collaboration & Support:
- Provide field leadership during outages, turnarounds, and emergent repairs
- Work closely with EDS specialists, I&E technicians and operations personnel
- Perform equipment walkdowns and condition assessments
- Support and, when required, lead Management of Change (MOC) activities, including coordination, documentation, and implementation of electrical system modifications in accordance with site procedures
- Support turnaround (TAR) execution through coordination of electrical work activities, including planning and execution of MCC outages, scheduling of work, and ensuring resources and equipment are prepared for outage-related tasks
Key Equipment Supported:
- Low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (480V through 138kV)
- Medium and low voltage motors and motor-driven equipment
- Motor control systems, including starters, contactors, and overload protection
- VFDs and associated control interfaces
- UPS systems and battery chargers, including DC distribution systems
- Cathodic Protection Systems
- Power transformers and associated protection schemes
- Main-tie-main distribution systems and bus transfer schemes
- Protective relays and control systems (SEL, GE Multilin, etc.)
- Industrial control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and associated I/O systems

Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Significant experience in industrial electrical maintenance, reliability, or technical support role
- Demonstrated hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical systems in an operating facility
- Experience working with operations, maintenance, and contractors in a plant environment
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant industrial electrical experience; with at least 5 years performing testing, troubleshooting, and analysis of electrical equipment, including relays, transformers, breakers, cables, motors, etc
- Experience with main-tie-main systems and bus transfer schemes
- Protective relay experience (SEL, GE Multilin)
- Familiarity with and Training in motor diagnostic tools (PdMA or similar)
- Familiarity with power system analysis software (SKM or equivalent)
- NFPA 70E training & demonstrated understanding of electrical safety practices

Additional Information
- This role requires frequent field presence in an operating plant environment
- Occasional visits to vendor shops or repair facilities may be required; travel is expected to be less than 10%
