Job Description
Overview: The Staff Engineer L6 will lead development for various Inovalon products and platforms, innovating to overcome current technology and bring in solutions which solve resiliency, scale, security in a completely different level. This position brings subject matter expertise as a functional lead and is tasked with ensuring a high level of discipline and productivity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines and access patterns related to Healthcare;
Research, evaluate and utilize new technologies/tools/frameworks centered around high-volume data processing in AWS;
Document and estimate technical scope and design as needed;
Design and implement distributed data processing pipelines using tools and languages prevalent in the big data ecosystem;
Involve and drive a culture of collaborative reviews of designs, code and test plans;
Work with business stake holders and architecture engineering leads to ensure quality solutions are implemented and engineering standard methodologies adhered to;
DevOps Focus – Utilize and advance continuous integration and deployment frameworks;
Solve complex data issues and perform root cause analysis;
Work across teams to resolve operational & performance issues;
Provide strong technical leadership, raise the technical bar, maintain data and results-driven culture, nurture a team culture of high collaboration and trust;
Communicate effectively and partner well with other disciplines of the project team to deliver high quality solutions from ideas to production code;
Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines;
Influence and coach junior engineers both within and outside of your team; be a role model for an open, honest, and inclusive approach to problem solving;

On Call Policy: Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical issues, including outside standard business hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays), ensuring timely response and resolution as per defined SLAs.
Quality Architecture & Automation Design
Architect scalable, maintainable test automation frameworks for API, UI, performance, and integration testing.
Define quality gates, automation standards, test strategies, and platform-wide QA best practices.
Build reusable automation libraries and pipelines for distributed systems, microservices, and multi-tenant platforms.
Produce design docs outlining test approaches, data strategies, risk mitigation, and automation architecture.
Quality Engineering Excellence
Drive testability across the SDLC—shifting left with early automation, code quality checks, and static analysis.
Ensure comprehensive automated coverage across unit, integration, contract, e2e, regression, and performance tests.
Raise the bar on reliability, performance, security, and observability through automated validation.
Implement CI/CD-driven test automation with zero-touch pipelines and automated quality checks.
Establish and monitor quality-related SLIs/SLOs (e.g., defect leakage, coverage, MTTR, test flakiness).
Leadership & Collaboration
Set technical direction for automation strategy, quality engineering maturity, and tooling adoption.
Mentor engineers and SDETs in automation, test design, CI/CD pipelines, and quality practices.
Collaborate with product, SRE, DevOps, security, and engineering teams to ensure test coverage for every requirement.
Foster a culture of quality, reliability, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Compliance & Policy
Enforce quality controls aligned with HIPAA, regulatory, and security standards.
Implement automated compliance checks, secure test data handling, and audit-ready QA processes.
Ensure adherence to internal policies, privacy standards, and organizational mission.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 15+ years in Quality Engineering, Test Automation, or Software Engineering with heavy automation focus for distributed, large-scale systems (multi-tenant, virtualization, high-performance computing)—ideally in healthcare.
Automation & Frameworks: Deep expertise in automation frameworks (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium, REST/GraphQL API automation). Strong experience in unit testing, integration testing, contract testing, e2e testing, and performance testing.
Programming & Tools: Strong coding expertise in .NET 8/C#, Node.js, Angular 18+ and scripting languages (Python, TypeScript). Experience building test frameworks from scratch.
Cloud & DevOps: Hands-on experience with AWS; Azure DevOps CI/CD; test orchestration; IaC; observability tooling. Experience implementing fully automated pipelines with multi-stage validation.
Data & Storage: Familiarity with SQL Server, Snowflake, PostgreSQL— especially test data creation, schema validation, and data quality automation.
Quality: Proven ability to drive test automation maturity, reduce manual testing, eliminate flakiness, and improve reliability through automation. Experience with monitoring, proactive stability improvements, and automated alerting.
Containers & Distributed Systems: Proficient in test automation for microservices, containerized environments, and orchestrated systems (Docker/Kubernetes).
Nice to Have (Preferred)
Experience with service meshes and asynchronous/event-streaming systems (Kafka, SQS, SNS).
Advanced performance testing and benchmarking experience (k6, JMeter, Gatling).
Security automation experience: vulnerability scanning, static analysis, secrets validation.
Experience leading org-wide automation transformations, platform migrations, or quality initiatives.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
