Clearance Requirement: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information; Ability to obtain & maintain an HSPD-12 & Secret Clearance.    

 

License/Certification Requirement: State Certified Journeyman’s License or VMET Certification required.

 


Responsibilities

The Shift Lead provides management and direct oversight of facility operations, maintenance activities and personnel during an assigned shift. This position is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of building systems, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, supervising and managing technicians, and maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and operational requirements. The Shift Lead serves as the primary operational leader for the shift and is accountable for workforce performance, situational awareness, and facility reliability.

  • Provide direct managerial leadership for assigned shift personnel, maintaining responsibility for work assignments, workforce utilization, performance oversight, and operational execution.
  • Lead daily facility operations and maintenance activities to ensure uninterrupted service and system reliability.
  • Prioritize, assign, monitor, and adjust technician activities based on safety, operational impact, workload, and demonstrated competency while ensuring employees are appropriately qualified, supervised, and supported to successfully perform assigned duties.
  • Maintain accountability for shift performance by overseeing work quality, ensuring maintenance activities are completed to established standards, and driving timely resolution, escalation, and turnover of unresolved issues through approved management channels.
  • Conduct facility inspections, monitor system conditions, and ensure operational issues are identified, documented, communicated, and resolved.
  • Maintain accurate shift reports, CMMS records, and operational documentation.
  • Enforce safety requirements including LOTO, PPE, AHAs, and Operational Risk Management (ORM) practices.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance oversight for assigned employees while fostering a professional and accountable work environment.
  • Coordinate with management, the Building Operations Center (BOC), and technical support personnel to address operational, maintenance, and safety concerns.
  • Be available to other Shifts as/when required by Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, employee development, and quality assurance efforts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or GED

  • State Certified Journeyman’s License or VMET Certification required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Understanding of power density and parity with HVAC system capacities. Ensures availability and capacity targets are achieved and maintained.

  • Knowledge of building automation systems and their components

  • Must be committed to excellence and generate a high quality of work.

  • Must consistently report to work on time, work well with other employees to accomplish a common goal, and maintain a safe work environment

  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.

  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.

  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.

  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.

  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.

  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.

  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.  It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.


Pay Range

USD $50.00 - USD $60.00 /Hr.
