Newmont’s Merian operation in Suriname is an open pit gold mine approximately 66km south of the town Moengo and 30 km north of the Nassau Mountains near the French Guiana. Newmont owns a 75 percent interest in the limited partnership and Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., Suriname’s state-owned oil company, owns the remaining 25 percent interest.

Your Impact

 

Lead Housing and Laundry operations, including all related services and supply chain activities for essential services, to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective support for all resident personnel and site operations.

As part of our team you will

 

 

  • Coordinate with the procurement team for sourcing supplies and handling inventory levels for the Housing and Laundry amenities.
  • Execute and assess safety protocols across all Housing and Laundry, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Plan and manage the Housing and Laundry budget, monitoring expenses and refining costs and logistics operations.
  • Oversee and instruct Housing and Laundry personnel, ensuring all staff adhere to policies and deliver impactful service standards.
  • Establish partnerships with vendors for cost-effective solutions in housing, laundry, and maintenance.
  • Contribute to the administration of the contract cycle from the search for alternatives, competition, award, performance management and contract closure in coordination with supply risk management and SCM policies.
  • Review and manage all area contract services according to the defined Scope.
  • Support the social plan strategy with the development of local community suppliers' facilities, catering, and transportation services.
  • Execute regular audits of Housing and Laundry facilities, assessing areas for improvement in maintenance or resource allocation. Implement identified improvements as needed.
  • Generate and deliver technical and financial reviews and monthly reports on Housing and Laundry, key performance indicators, and budget performance to the Manager NPI. Prepare financial reports and reviews
  • Facilitate emergency response procedures for camp residents, ensuring preparedness for weather events or other hazards, including keeping contingency plans updated.
Prerequisites for your success in this role

 

  • Knowledge of civil engineering, industrial engineering, business administration, or related fields, preferably with postgraduate studies in administration, administrative management, human resources, or similar areas.
  • Understanding of policies, standards, and procedures applicable to customer satisfaction needs.
  • Proficiency in planning and organizing transportation, food supplies, office management, and camp operations in emergencies.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in housing, laundry, and facilities management with personnel supervision in mining or similar industries.
  • Advanced English proficiency (spoken and written), Dutch preferred
  • Valid B-E driver's license.
Your work environment

 

This position is located at Merian, at the project sites. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment
The Merian mine is located in Northeastern Suriname, approximately 98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo and 60 kilometers south of Moengo.
Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace under a rotational roster (6 weeks on site and 3 weeks off) with additional work time as required to meet operational commitments.
Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year.
