Job Description
We are seeking a Product Development/Research & Development Technologist responsible for ensuring the availability of wet raw materials for production, while supporting research and development initiatives focused on innovative winemaking products. This role contributes to the continuous improvement of both new and existing formulations within the GVI portfolio.
This teammate will be responsible for:
• Regularly communicating with the PD/R&D Manager regarding quality concerns and wet raw material requirements• Collaborating closely with Production to maintain inventory accuracy, assess the quality of incoming wet raw materials, and resolve quality-related issues• Working alongside the Production Scheduler, Master Production Scheduler, and Operations Manager to support production efficiency as it relates to raw material availability• Partnering with the Product Development Technician and providing backup support when required• Supporting the Technical Services Coordinator in the development of customer troubleshooting projects• Covering Technical Services Coordinator responsibilities as needed
Wet Raw
Arranges for sampling of each new lot of incoming raw material to ensure product quality
Determines weekly wet raw material requirements for production schedule and arrange transfers from outside storage locations, manages tank inventory to maximize space
Verify and receive/close raw material blends and Purchase Orders in Oracle
Conducts cycle counts and is lead counter for Wet Raws for Year End inventory
Modifies work orders with raw material substitutions and drum volumes
Maintaining wet raw material documentation for regulatory purposes
Research and Development
Supervise R&D priorities (departmental and inter-departmental) and project timelines
Coordinates and executes reformulation projects, competitive analysis
Meet with Technical Sales Representatives (Flavour, Fermentation, Oak, etc.) to discuss new products
Designs novel product trials, interprets results, gives recommendations based on the results; establish directions to implement the product
Conducts flavour and raw material conversions.
Product Development
Executes NPD projects, ensures timelines are being met
Supervise supplier pre-shipment process from analysis to tasting.
Ensures all PD equipment is calibrated and coordinates equipment maintenance when needed.
Coordinates and executes APL and Internal tastings for R&D and NPD (New Product Development) Projects
Participates in the decision – making process following tasting events
The skills, knowledge and experience this teammate will bring:
University degree in winemaking, food science or related discipline
3 – 5 years’ experience in related discipline
HACCP training and experience an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Excel and Access
Strong attention to detail, problem solving, decision making and communication skills
