Patrol Officer

Summary East Stroudsburg University is currently recruiting for patrol officers. Patrol officers on a university campus primarily perform community-oriented policing. Our officers are highly interactive with the student population as many students are away from home for the first time and seek guidance and direction from our officers. The role is one of assistance and enforcement, and the officers are viewed as problem solvers. We look for leadership potential and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to make presentations and relate to our student population. The shift is comprised of foot patrols with significant interaction with the residential population. The officers provide a police presence that promotes the safety and security of all members of the university community. This is an essential personnel position. Responsibilities · Directs and controls traffic and parking on university grounds enforcing vehicle laws by issuing warnings, parking tickets and citations for violations of university and commonwealth traffic regulations. · Provides safety and Law Enforcement for extra-curricular, social and recreational events and activities at this university. · Transports by state-owned vehicles, persons to hospitals and university funds/valuables to proper locations. · Responds to calls, including fire, bomb threat or any other university emergency. · Investigates suspected crimes, reports findings and arrests where Rules of Criminal Procedure require, following university arrest policy guidelines. · Investigates accidents involving persons or property, reporting same and pursuing appropriate course of action on university grounds. · Cooperates and works with local, state and other police authorities, as needed. · Testifies in court or legal proceedings, as necessary. · Displays and removes temporary signage on campus. · Prepares and maintains reports of daily activities. · Utilizes radio communications equipment, accomplishes routine administrative duties and performs other related work as required. · Participates in education and training courses, as requested. · Practices safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries, and to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. · Operates state vehicles in a safe and courteous manner. · May advise student or community activity groups. · Performs related work as required.
