Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the West Coast–based Portfolio Strategist, with primary responsibility for supporting clients, prospects, and business development efforts across the region, while remaining fully integrated with the firm’s centralized Portfolio Strategies Group (PSG)
Develop and communicate fixed income investment strategies across the firm’s separately managed account (SMA) platform
Contribute to and provide input into PFMAM’s Fixed Income and Risk Management Working Group discussions, translating committee views into portfolio positioning and client-facing messaging
Synthesize economic, market, and portfolio insights into actionable strategy views; collaborate with Portfolio Strategists, Quantitative Analysts, and Portfolio Managers to support investment decision-making
Develop and maintain strategy guidance and market positioning materials for use across client-facing teams, updating regularly based on market conditions
Own and standardize the development of market updates and investment strategy materials for firm-wide use, ensuring consistency of messaging across Distribution, Client Service, and Portfolio Management teams
Serve as a fixed income subject matter expert (SME) and thought partner to internal and external stakeholders; produce thought leadership and educational materials for clients and prospects
Develop and deliver fixed income education and training for internal teams and external clients, including presentations on market conditions, Federal Reserve policy, portfolio construction, and sector positioning
Play a lead role in investment strategy positioning for RFPs and finalist presentations, including shaping messaging, coordinating inputs across teams, and ensuring alignment with firm-wide investment views
Provide strategic support to large and high-priority client relationships, delivering tailored portfolio insights and ensuring consistent implementation across mandates
Serve as a client-facing representative of the investment team, delivering market updates, portfolio insights, and strategy discussions in client meetings, conferences, and training forums, with a focus on California regional engagement
Partner with portfolio managers to lead strategy communication, client engagement, and presentation efforts, enabling investment teams to remain focused on portfolio management and trading execution
Provide enhanced support for large and strategically important client relationships, delivering tailored portfolio strategy insights and ensuring consistent implementation across portfolios
Act as a feedback conduit between clients and the investment team, incorporating client perspectives, market sentiment, and competitive insights into strategy development and messaging
Facilitate communication between the investment team, trading desk, and client-facing teams to improve efficiency, consistency, and delivery of investment solutions across regions
Basic Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Five or more years of experience in a consultative investment role
CFA designation
Preferred Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or a related field, with a strong academic record
5 or more years of relevant experience in portfolio management, trading, strategy development, fixed income investment research, or quantitative analysis
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of fixed income securities, markets, and portfolio management principles
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Effective leadership skills and the ability to collaborate within a team-oriented environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Commitment to the highest ethical standards, with a strong sense of personal accountability, risk management, and compliance awareness
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Copilot
Working knowledge of Bloomberg or similar financial data platforms
CFA designation strongly preferred
Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% as required
The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $124,355.00 - $146,300.00U.S. Bank will consider qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records for employment.
