
Signal Technician
Job Description
Department: Traffic
Reports to: Signal Technician Supervisor
Summary: Under basic supervision, installs, maintains, and repairs traffic signals to assure proper technical functions and allow for safe and effective traffic flow across the city.
Essential Functions: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Inspects, maintains, installs, and repairs traffic signal hardware; replaces components as needed; follows all safety rules, regulations, and Public Works Department (PWD) policies for traffic control on the job site.
- Maintains and operates PWD vehicles and equipment according to Department standards.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
- Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Must have and maintain a cell phone for City use to hold this position.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or GED required. One year of electrical equipment maintenance experience required.
Knowledge of:
- Procedures, equipment, and tools used for installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
- Basic traffic control and safety procedures and regulations.
Skill in:
- Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Following standard operating and safety procedures, and technical manuals and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and at City facilities; requires moderate physical efforts, and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment.
