Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Merchant Assistant provides support to our buyers in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. As a Merchant Assistant you will function as a liaison between buyers and internal and external business partners. The ideal Merchant Assistant is resourceful, a problem solver, well organized, a good communicator, and a team player. You are responsible for key steps in our end-to-end business processes which include, but are not limited to supplier set up, SKU creation, order creation, marketing, billing, and customer support. This role is a steppingstone to other careers within Family Dollar Merchandising.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Become a subject matter expert in your business category.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with your buying team, fellow MAs, and cross-functional business partners.
- Kick off supplier set up in our system through written communication with selected vendors and Vendor Maintenance.
- Write bulk fashion orders and perform modifications including, but not limited to delivery extensions, cancellations, cost updates, case pack changes, and UPC changes.
- Own SKU set up and maintenance within your business category. Vet forms received from suppliers for completeness and accuracy. Request updates as needed. Submit requests to Data Management to meet deadlines.
- Create billings for vendor funding within our system by partnering with buyers, suppliers, and Fixed Deals. Vet documentation to ensure accuracy while meeting weekly deadlines.
- Act as a project manager in areas of responsibility; kick off the process with meetings and workflow submissions then follow up as required throughout the process.
- Function as liaison between buyers, suppliers, Data Management, Fixed Deals, Private Brands, Pricing, and Vendor Maintenance.
- Participate in online reviews and seasonal buys.
- Own departmental trackers that outline work utilized in monthly financial rollups.
- Communicate regularly and consistently with suppliers to obtain new and updated product information.
- Ensure an accuracy rating of 93% or higher on SKU and Pricing workflow submissions by partnering with Data Management, Pricing, Managers, and other MAs while meeting deadlines.
- Prepare for and support team and cross-functional meetings; prep materials that support the agenda, contribute insights and updates, take notes, and manage next steps.
- Responsible for our sample and ticketing processes.
- Manage our Marketing promotional tool, DemandTec, as needed.
- Resolve customer complaints by issuing and tracking gift cards.
- Self-direct personal and professional development.
- Participate in special projects as they arise.
- Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Full time 40 hours/week.
- Up to 10% of travel may be required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- College degree preferred
- Microsoft Office experience required
- Retail experience preferred
