Job Type: Full-Time 2nd shift 11am- 7pm
Pay: $17
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Cook to join our Dietary Services team. The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals for residents while ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, and dietary regulations. In the absence of the Dietary Supervisor, the Cook will oversee kitchen operations and provide leadership to dietary staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities according to approved menus and recipes.
Accurately prepare regular, modified, therapeutic, and pureed diets.
Follow portion control guidelines and dietary restrictions.
Record and monitor food temperatures for all meals.
Maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and organized kitchen environment.
Ensure sanitizer buckets contain proper quaternary solution levels.
Clean cooking equipment, preparation areas, and serving carts.
Assist with meal service as needed.
Ensure all cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures are followed.
Present food in an attractive and appealing manner for residents.
Work cooperatively with staff across all departments.
Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary personnel.
Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing.
Supervise dietary staff and kitchen operations in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of one (1) year of cooking experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, or long-term care setting preferred.
Skills & Abilities
Ability to read and follow recipes and technical procedures.
Strong understanding of food preparation, sanitation, and safety practices.
Ability to effectively communicate with managers, coworkers, residents, and visitors.
Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and measurements.
Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certifications
Must obtain and maintain a current ServSafe Certification.
Experience with PCC preferred.
Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health.
Physical Requirements
Frequently stand, walk, push, pull, reach, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb occasionally.
Frequent use of sight, hearing, taste, and smell while performing duties.
Ability to work in a kitchen environment with varying temperatures.
