Position Information
The Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute (NRI) is seeking an innovative and interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as an Acoustic Ecologist / Wildlife Research Scientist and advance cutting-edge wildlife monitoring and conservation efforts. This position emphasizes integrating acoustic technologies, artificial intelligence, and ecological field research to address complex conservation challenges.
The successful candidate will bridge wildlife science and audio engineering to design, implement, and analyze acoustic monitoring systems for species detection, behavior analysis, and habitat assessment across diverse ecosystems.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement acoustic monitoring programs for wildlife populations.
- Develop and apply AI-driven methods for analyzing large-scale acoustic datasets.
- Integrate acoustic data with traditional ecological research and field surveys.
- Customize, deploy, and maintain acoustic recording hardware and sensor systems.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance conservation strategies and decision-making.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to technical reports.
- Support applied conservation initiatives, including endangered species monitoring.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Wildlife Science, Rangeland Ecology, Fisheries, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in wildlife research, ecological field methods, and data analysis.
- Strong analytical skills, including familiarity with AI or machine learning applications.
- Formal training or professional experience in audio engineering, recording arts, or signal processing.
- Experience with acoustic software platforms (e.g., Pro Tools, Nuendo, Cubase).
- Background in electronics, equipment design, or system optimization for field applications.
- Experience integrating multimedia, visualization, or communication tools into scientific workflows.
- Experience with acoustic recording technologies and signal processing.
- Proven record of scientific publication and collaborative research.
