As a Senior Underwriter, you will underwrite both renewal and new business Environmental Liability (EIL) accounts in Puerto Rico, with an emphasis on underwriting traditional EIL products including site pollution, contractors’ pollution, storage tank liability, and transportation liability. 

What you'll be doing:

  • Ensure delivery of all facets of the in-force portfolio with respect to timely servicing, and adherence to department operational and underwriting guidelines. 
  • Contributes to, monitors and advises on the business plan requirements and developments in order to ensure success in delivering profitable results in line with plan
  • Underwrite new accounts in accordance with operational and underwriting guidelines.
  • Meet stated financial objectives around growth and profitability for the EIL portfolio.
  • Proactively engages and manages producer relationships to grow the portfolio and Sompo’s market presence for environmental liability.
  • Assists in the preparation and implementation of regional business reporting plans to ensure these are in line with wider business strategy and reflect key priorities.
  • As needed participate and lead local form filings and filing amendments.
  • Utilize underwriting standards, practices, and tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.
  • Review applicable laws and regulations, including cancellation and non-renewal protocols, in assigned locations.

What you’ll bring:

  • At least 5 years of casualty or environmental underwriting experience.
  • Familiarity with required forms and coverages.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws associated with US/Puerto Rico Environmental underwriting coverages.
  • Experience working with local brokers and agents
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to effectively engage in the negotiation process.
  • Adept at risk selection, exposure evaluation and ability to rate, quote, and sell admitted and non-admitted solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Very strong analytical, oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines is essential.
  • Strong customer service with a professional attitude and approach needed.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with various levels of the organization to cross-sell or address processing requirements.

Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
