
Hoist Operator (Sinking) - Alamos Shaft
Job Description
Project: Alamos Shaft Sinking & Headwork - Dubreuilville, ON
Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off
Shift Length: 12 hours
Salary Range: $140,000 - $190,000/annum, range is variable and dependent on overtime worked and production bonus paid
Travel: FIFO or Kilometers paid

Job Summary:
The primary role of the hoist operator is to move personnel, equipment and material up and down the mine shaft during its excavation and construction, all while ensuring the safe operation of the sinking hoist and winches at all times.
Move sinking equipment in and out of the shaft
Perform routine daily inspections on hoist and winches and assure maintenance needs are reported and logged.
Test the safety devices and controls of the hoist
Move levers and pedals to operate hoist in response to arm, bell, or buzzer signals.
Observe dial indicator and marks on cable or drum to ascertain that desired position has been reached
Apply hand or foot brake and moves lever to lock hoist.
Inspect, lubricate, and adjust brakes and equipment.
Select loads or materials according to weight and size specifications
Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage

Health and Safety:
- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
- Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
- Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area
Requirement:
Valid Hoist operator qualification certificate (provincial)
Work Experience:
Minimum of 2 years' experience in shaft work, including shaft inspection, monitoring cages and skips, cleating and slinging, and maintenance.
Knowledge Required
- Must know and understand the entire shaft sinking signals as required
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety rules and provincial lifting regulations
- Medical certificate attesting to ability to operate a winch (to be renewed annually)
Ability to multi task and work effectively
