Has oversight for leading multiple medical staff functions for the organized medical staffs via the Regional Medical Staff Office (MSO). The medical staff specialist will perform work for two community hospital medical staffs within BH (BFMC & BWH) in a timely and efficient manner. This position will also provide back-up for the Medical Staff Office (MSO) at BNH as needed. This will require meeting multiple deadlines and prioritizing work by importance.
This role is the staff to the Medical Staff Executive Committee (the primary governance committee) and serves as the liaison to each Medical Staff). The regional medical staff specialist is responsible for adhering to regulatory standards for all aspects of medical staff services to ensure regulatory compliance and will provide guidance to the medical staff leaders in relation to medical staff matters In addition, this role is responsible for ensuring consistency in practice across the medical staffs functions to mitigate risk and will work in conjunction with the legal department in relation to certain medical staff matters.
Responsibilities will include work regarding the Medical Staff Executive Committees, the Administrative Affairs Committees, medical staff meetings/events including the Annual and Semi-Annual Medical Staff Meetings, backend credentialing, Board of Trustees approval process, ensuring compliance with expired documents including suspensions of credentialed providers, medical staff dues, recognition service awards, research, correspondence, responding to inquiries, oversight of four budgets, donations, preparing medical staff treasurers reports, completing projects and any new work assigned by the BH CVO but only work that is related to the regional medical staff services functions. Will utilize strong problem-solving and analytical skills and will help medical staff members as needed. Will utilize a high level of judgement, independence and make suggestions to ensure operations are efficient while keeping the BH Senior Director of Medical Staff Services updated as needed.
Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:
Has oversight of the Medical Executive Committee, Administrative Affairs Committee (with assistance from the legal department), Annual and Semi-Annual Medical Staff Meetings, and all other medical staff meetings/events including completion of all work in a timely manner to ensure regulatory compliance and to mitigate risk.
Uses judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills while completing all aspects of the backend process of provider credentialing to ensure regulatory compliance and to mitigate risk.
Follows up on multiple outstanding expired attachments after the 3rd attempt if not successful by the Central Verification Organization (CVO). Suspends providers as required to ensure regulatory compliance.
Handles the recognition awards process. Composes correspondence, prepares confidential forms, minutes, performs general office functions, works on projects, performs research and completes any new work assigned. Provides back-up coverage for the BNH MSO as needed.
Ensures compliance, provides guidance as the liaison to the medical staff leaders in relation to medical staff matters and helps medical staff members as needed. Adheres to all regulatory standards in relation to medical staff services and makes suggestions to ensure optimal departmental operations.
Has oversight of two department medical staff office budgets and two medical staff cost center budgets. Prepares medical staff treasurers' reports and processes medical staff dues for both medical staffs.
Keeps abreast of applicable federal, state, local laws, policies and procedures, and/or regulations that pertain to medical staff services and related activities (including but not limited to CMS, DPH, MA BORM, MA BORN and TJC). Responsible for ensuring that the Regional Medical Staff Office functions meet TJC standards. Must maintain confidentiality at all times regarding sensitive matters.

Skills/Competencies: Excellent organizational skills, need to be able to prioritize workload, meet multiple deadlines, and has the ability to work independently with minimal direction/supervision is required. Detail-oriented, consistent follow-through, excellent customer service and good written/oral communication skills are essential.
Proficient skills in the current Microsoft environment and relational databases are required.

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
