The Opportunity
McElhanney is seeking an accomplished Senior Marine Structural Engineer to join our team. This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced marine structural engineer who is ready to take on technical leadership, project oversight, and mentorship responsibilities. You’ll play a key role in delivering complex marine structures while helping shape the future of our marine practice.

As a key member of our marine and bridge structural group, you’ll collaborate with, and be supported by, more than 40 experienced bridge and marine professionals across a wide range of specialties.
This position is open to candidates based on Vancouver Island or the Lower Mainland, and consideration will be given to other locations for the right candidate, offering flexibility to work where you live while contributing to impactful marine and coastal infrastructure projects across British Columbia and beyond. For candidates willing to relocate to any of these regions, financial assistance will be provided.
What You’ll Do
Provide both Project Management and senior-level design, engineering, site inspection, and construction support for marine structural projects, including piers, wharves, trestles, ramps, dolphins, and floating structures utilizing steel, concrete, timber, and aluminum.
Serve as Engineer of Record and Project Manager on complex marine projects, overseeing technical quality, budgets, and schedules.
Lead and contribute to proposal preparation, client relationships, and business development.
Provide technical guidance, supervision, and mentorship to junior and intermediate staff.
Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients to deliver high-quality outcomes.
What You’ll Bring
10+ years of progressive experience in marine structural engineering design.
P.Eng. registration in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
Proven success delivering marine structural projects in a dual role as both Project Manager and Engineer of Record for public and private sector clients.
Experience with floating structures and aluminum structures is a strong asset.
In-depth knowledge of Canadian design codes for steel, concrete, and aluminum, with working familiarity with international marine codes and standards.
Advanced proficiency with structural analysis and design software, including SAP2000.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in project management and proposal development.
Highly organized, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
Advanced proficiency with MS Office, particularly Word and Excel, and the ability to quickly adopt new tools and technologies.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $150,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
