Job Description
The Automotive Technician is responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on vehicles while ensuring all work is completed according to dealership and OEM standards. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to operate diagnostic equipment, and the capability to communicate technical information clearly to both customers and management.
Key Responsibilities
Perform advanced vehicle diagnostics and repairs efficiently and accurately.
Diagnose and repair:
Engine systems
Transmission systems
Electrical systems
Steering and suspension systems
Brake systems
Air conditioning systems
Utilize computerized diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
Perform mechanical and electrical component replacement.
Interpret repair orders and determine necessary repair actions.
Follow Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) and OEM guidelines.
Inspect and test new vehicles and document findings.
Communicate repair recommendations and diagnoses in a clear, non-technical manner.
Assist in leading and supporting small groups of technicians when required.
Participate in ongoing technical training to stay current with evolving automotive technology.
Perform repairs within manufacturing and assembly-line environments when needed.
Complete additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of 5 years of automotive repair experience and/or formal training.
Valid U.S. Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
Basic computer proficiency.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Customer-service focused with a flexible attitude.
Preferred
OEM dealership or manufacturer experience.
Experience using automotive diagnostic equipment and AC service equipment.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and move throughout 8+ hour shifts.
Ability to work at heights of up to 20–25 feet.
Ability to work in manufacturing and shop environments with:
Loud noise levels
Extreme temperature changes
Outdoor weather conditions when required
Schedule Requirements
Must be able to work assigned schedules, including:
Overtime
Multiple shifts
Weekends
Holidays
Reliable attendance and punctuality are required.
