Responsibilities
The Project Executive is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring technical excellence, operational performance, risk management, and strategic growth for the local office and across the subsidiary. This role serves as a trusted advisor to clients and internal leadership, providing oversight on complex engagements, mentoring technical leaders, and advancing ECS's capabilities and market presence. The Project Executive drives consistency, quality, and innovation across service lines while demonstrating ECS Core Values.
Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
- Provides mentorship and leadership to Project Managers, Principals, and technical staff
- Develops and coaches high-performing teams and future leaders
- Establishes career development plans and monitors progress
- Participates in leadership development and succession planning
- Supports performance evaluations and talent development initiatives
- Leads or participates in Principal Engineer review and promotion processes
- Collaborates with recruiting teams to attract top talent
- Supports university engagement and early career pipeline development
Technical & Project Oversight
- Serves as Project Executive on complex, high-risk, or high-visibility projects
- Provides quality assurance and technical oversight for project deliverables
- Ensures projects meet standards for safety, quality, schedule, and budget
- Engages with project teams to support execution and resolve challenges
- Provides guidance on complex technical, operational, and client issues
- Promotes consistency and excellence across service lines
Client & Business Development
- Builds and maintains strong client relationships across markets
- Serves as senior client contact for key engagements
- Identifies and pursues new business opportunities
- Supports proposal development and strategic positioning
- Represents ECS in external meetings, industry events, and professional organizations
- Enhances brand visibility through thought leadership, presentations, and publications
Strategy & Growth
- Identifies opportunities for new service lines and market expansion
- Supports strategic initiatives aligned with subsidiary and corporate goals
- Contributes to growth strategies across geotechnical, environmental, CMT, and specialty
services - Supports mergers, acquisitions, and integration initiatives
- Collaborates with leadership to drive innovation and competitive advantage
Operations & Risk Management
- Ensures effective risk management across projects and operations
- Provides oversight of contract execution and client risk exposure
- Supports operational efficiency and consistency across teams
- Collaborates with operations and department leadership on staffing and workload planning
- Identifies and mitigates project and organizational risks
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, architecture, or equivalent. A Master's or MBA is preferred.
- If driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required.
- Demonstrated technical excellence, leadership, safety, and professionalism
- Excellent performance history in project management, communication, risk management, and technical knowledge
- Communicate proficiently, employing strong interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders and convey complex data in a clear and actionable manner
- Extensive experience in various aspects of driving strategic initiatives across organizations
- Ability to enact change quickly and to influence key stakeholders and operational owners through well-articulated strategies backed up with metric-driven value statements
- Ability to make decisions independently and to assume higher-level leadership responsibilities in critical situations
- Ability to promote innovative ideas and accept the risks that are required to lead change
- Display an effective consultative and influencing approach
- Display maturity, flexibility, comfort with ambiguity and a sense of optimism/can-do attitude
- Proven ability to build and lead and interact with diverse and distributed teams from various internal and external organizations across multiple locations
- Strong and creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and strategic planning skills, including the ability to disaggregate problems and structure complex issues
- Strong presentation skills including the development of PowerPoint presentations
- Strong collaboration and influence skills, demonstrating an ability to navigate organizational relationships, incorporate differing perspectives, develop recommendations, and generate consensus with partners across teams
- Extensive experience with client relationship management, contract negotiation, and financial oversight across multiple regions
- Proven track record in mentoring and training engineering professionals, including Principal Engineers
- Deep knowledge of specialized service lines and emerging technologies in the industry
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse sectors, including private, public, and federal clients
