Radio & Mobile Elect Syst Tech
Under the general direction of the supervisor, performs technical, electrical and electronics work associated with the installation, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, programming and repair of Mobile Electronic Equipment and Systems.
What you will be doing:
- Troubleshoots, installs, programs, monitors, repairs and maintains Mobile Electronic Equipment and Systems.
- Maintains DPS Console radios, American Airlines Departures AM radio transmitter and all stationary 800MHz Board radios.
- Performs Communication system upgrades or modifications using a laptop computer with appropriate application software.
- Tests electronic circuits to locate defective communication and mobile system components using oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, spectrum generators, spectrum analyzers and RF service monitors.
- Replaces defective components, wiring and adjusts electronic parts to specifications using hand tools, special equipment and soldering irons.
- Reads, interprets and works from schematics, drawings and systems technical specifications.
- Assists project managers in coordinating work performed by contractors on assigned systems.
- Assists design engineers in developing specifications on assigned systems.
- Maintains records of repairs, calibrations and tests, as required by Federal and Board regulations.
- Assists the Environmental Affairs Department in performing field observations of Airport activities with respect to potential environmental issues and notifies the Environmental Affairs Department of any observations that may have environmental impact.
What you need:
- Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of electronic systems and equipment.
- Formal training/certification in general electronics.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
- Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair principles and practices applicable to EDACS Trunked, VHF and UHF radio systems.
- Knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair principles and practices applicable to emergency and non-emergency mobile lighting systems.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical trades, with knowledge of 120VAC equipment and devices and/or the hazards and safety precautions associated with the area of assignment.
- Knowledge of networking basics.
- Skill in the use and care of assigned tools and equipment.
- Ability to use personal computers and applications software such as Microsoft Office.
- Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings and detailed electronics system technical specifications.
- Ability to maintain work records and to analyze and evaluate records for planning.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious internal and external working relationships.
- Ability to be cross-trained in different areas of Communication Electronics System responsibilities.
- Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
Desired:
- FCC 1st Class (General Radio Telephone) License.
- A manufacturer’s certification.
- Two (2) year technical degree.
- Previous electronics maintenance experience in an Airport environment.
- ISCET Certification.
Special Requirements:
- Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
- This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
- This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.
- Ability to work different shifts.
Effort:
- Works in a combined maintenance shop and industrial environment.
- Works outdoors for extended periods in inclement weather.
- Uses keyboard devices and computer monitors.
- Performs manual labor, frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally exerting forces equivalent to lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Climbs up and down ladders and works at various heights above ground, restricted spaces or under floor.
- Works in awkward positions such as stooping, squatting or with arms above the head for extended periods of time.
- Uses hand, power and precision tools.
- Maintains records and prepares reports.
- Uses reasoning in problem solving and analysis.
- Exchanges information by telephone, two-way radio and in person.
- Uses near visual acuity and color perception in diagnosing and repairing electronic and electrical systems.
- Drives to locations on and off Airport property.
